Double-Din Pics-Ideas for newby

I just bought an '06 1500 crew cab with the base radio, no xm or bose. I want to replace it with another double din unit. I don't know if I need DVD or Nav, mp3 capability is a must. I saw one person here who had a Kenwood unit. Any other pics or suggestions? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

That is a very nice setup. I like the front and rear monitors.

It may be a little expensive for me right now. I was looking on ebay and saw a unit from Pyle (pldmn65) and jensen (vm9020ts). Anyone have any experience with either of these?

DO NOT BUY EITHER. Unless you really don't care about sound quality and long-term reliabitliy.

I noticed someone on here had a kenwood cd/mp3 player and also a kenwood dvd player. How is that equipment holding up so far? Did you have any problems during the installs? Thanks.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the stock radios are double-din.. I believe they are kind of din-and a half or something. Pioneer and I think one other maker has one that fits this size directly but otherwise you will have to get a regular size (single din?) with an adapter.

I have the regular size with the insert that covers what would be a gap on top and bottom.

My 2001 Silverado has a din and a half opening but I think the newer trucks have the double din opening.

Alpine just came out with a new double din head unit. Its DVD, MP3, Apple IPod controllable, NAV ready, Bluetooth ready, HD Radio enabled, Sirus and XM ready. Look it up its bad ass. The model number is IVA-W200. It is around 1k but worth every penny. Alpine makes a high quality unit.

When I was in the market a few years ago, I couldn't find a single Din.5 head unit I liked, so I looked into adapters, and there are some really good looking ones out there, don't rule that out!

I have a Kenwood unit in my 01 Suburban. I've had it since since september and I love it. Its the KVT-717DVD.
