Emergency Brake

My mom owns a 2001 Yukon 1500 with a 5.3 Vortec.  We have had many problems with the emergency brake on this vehicle the latest being the worst.  We were driving along and just getting off the interstate when the back driver-side brake locked and sent us doing dougnuts across the exit ramp.  I managed to maintain control of the vehicle and we got it towed to the dealer.  They "Fixed" it and we were off well two days later the same thing happened to my mom and the vehicle was unable to move, it didn't spin her she was going slow thank god.  Now as of today I drove it down to the Kroger to get some food and when I came out to leave, the truck would only go in reverse and not forward so as I'm typing to you the truck is being transported back to the dealer for another "fix" job.  I wanted to know what your feeling are on the situation and what you would do about it.    :D

That could be a serious safety concern.  If it was my truck I'd be having a serious talk with the service manager and the dealership owner.  The words buy-back and lemon keep popping into my head...

Woah!!  Going on 3 times?

Definitely get versed in the Lemon Law as i believe this qualifies to a tee!

Be firm, and talk with the Srvc Mgr or owner of the dealership and get them to give you another new one!!

Can you give anymore information on what the dealership found or repaired.  I can't understand why you would have a problem like this unless something was bent or out of adjustment.

That is very interesting.  Lemon laws might come into effect there.  But really got my attention is the fact that your "E-brake" (btw I was told at a dealership that it can't legally be called an emergency brake.....it's a parking brake.)  My parking brake won't keep me stationary when I let off the brake in park.  Evidently, from one dealer service source, the "parking brake" isn't designed to STOP your vehicle.  I know what your next question is.....Then why put one on the vehicle?  :D I stumbled upon this info shortly before my vacation and haven't followed up on it yet.  GM will be getting a carefully worded letter from me soon.  Can anyone get me more info on the brake system....ie how many cylinders are there, what happens when they leak...etc.

Jees the 'Parking brake' on these vehicles is a fairly simple setup, when properly installed. There is a lot of "come and go"

when you are attempting to center the brake itself to the disc/drum vertically, which is held in place by a single 8 mm bolt.  Perhaps try another dealer and Technician who has the infinite wisdom to read the directions. Best of luck here, please let us know.
