Towing a car, how heavy can I go

I just thought for my FL trip it would be cheaper and easier to pack up my buddies car and tow it on a car dolly.  How much weight is too much to tow?  His car is a 95 pontiac grand prix and I'd say it would have about 500 pounds of stuff in it roughly and I would only have a duffel bag and 3 guys in my truck.  Is this feasible?  It would cut down on gas consumption for the trip and make it a lot less boring than me driving by myself for 20 hours.

Jon-will the dolly have it's own brakes?   If not you'll have to be careful and give yourself alot of stoppping distance. Most of the ones I've seen have surge-brakes which would be fine.  Heavier duty dollies may have electric brakes.  Weight-wise you should be fine.  The curb weight of a 95 Grand Prix is 3240lbs so you should still be well under 5000lbs including the dolly.

I'd say if the dolly has some kind of brakes-no problem.  Go for it! :D

Like Hillhound said I think you'll be fine...  especially if you have brakes on the dolly, because you'll be traveling across some hilly terrain.

With the lift and big tires I wouldn't count on very good fuel milage though while towing...
