Installing door speakers on a Silverado

My front door speakers on my 2000 Silverado Regular Cab are blown and i was wanting to change them out for some better aftermarket speakers. Do i have to take off the whole door panel to change the speakers? If i do have to take off the whole door panel how can i go about doing this?

yes you do have to take out the whole door panel, this is the process as i remember it, please correct me if i am wrong.

Remove the little triangular piece at the top behind the side mirors.

Remove the 4 screws holding the panel in.

Remove the door panel by lifting up on it, it is literally hung on there with plastic hooks

Disconect the switches

Install the speaker

Reverse instrctions to reinstall

If I remember right, after you get the door panel loose, you have to unplug a connection to the tweeter, plus a couple connections for the electric windows and remote mirrors. The electric window switch panel clips onto the door panel (with maybe one screw on the front part) so could just remove that part.

The factory large speaker has a plastic frame around it and just snaps into the opening in the metal part of the door, so with the aftermarket speakers you have to drill some small holes to screw the new speakers in. You will have to cut off the stock factory connector and put on some different electrical connectors that will work with the aftermarket speakers. The stock speakers are a full range speaker so make sure you get some comparable ones, as far as frequency range, or you will lose some of the midrange sound.
