Fuel gauge problems

Have a 2000 Z-71 with 106,000 miles on it. The gauge is starting to act up.

When its idling, the gauge makes a noise (off/on) then the gauge reads emety then shoots back up to where it should be. Is it the senser behind the display? Is it a easy fix to buy a new senser and replace it behind the display?

Most likely it's the sender unit in the tank. You'll have to decide whether to drop the tank or raise the bed...

If you are not having any fuel pressure problems, you can just replace the fuel level sensor on the sending unit. (much cheaper). Like mike suggested, you can jack the bed up but be careful. I loosen the right bed bolts about halfway. Take the left ones out. Unbolt filler neck from bed and unhook taillight connectors and raise the left side of the bed. Be sure to put some blocks between frame and bed.
