Replacemnet Console Question

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I purchased a replacement console from an online GM Parts vendor. It's the top half of the center jumpseat part # 88977363 (My old one cracked and came apart). When I went to unbolt the old part and install the new one in the jumpseat assembly I found that there are no threads in the bolt holes. Is that normal? Could the bolts possibly be the self threading type? I don't have much experience using a tap & die set (I'd probably pick the wrong size threads). Just wanted to do a reality check. Thanks.

I don't know whether or not the holes are threaded but...Tapping out a bolt hole isn't so bad.

Usually a tap kit comes with little whatsamajiggers that measure the bolt threads, and tell you what tap to use...It's kinda hard to mess up.

The important thing when starting tapping a hole is to start the tap straight (DUH). Then, back it out every 1/4 turn or so to clean out the metal shavings from the hole.
