New '06 Mirrors on an '02 - Wiring Issues

OK Guys - Here's one for you:

I have an '02 Sierra 2500HD with the optional manual only mirrors. They just manually telescope, and that's it.

I acquired a set of new for '06 mirrors that manually telescope, but have blinkers and a heating element.

Without pulling off my door panel, I can see an existing wiring harness male connector butting out near the mirror access cover on the inside of the door. It has a black/blue/orange/white/yellow wire going to it.

The new mirrors have two female connectors that run somewhat in series and the plastic is blue on one and black on the other.

I realize that I may not have a plug and play setup since my truck is not an SLE model, and does not have door panels with a power mirror controller. BUT...the turck isobviously prewired for a power mirror connection of some sort...

I just want to hard wire the blinkers and possible put a toggle switch on the side of the dash for the heating element.

Any takers? I'm armed with my voltmeter and a 12V power supply, so I could just go wire by wire, but I thought I would throw this one to the crowd first in case it makes my life easier

R&D.....Are they GM mirrors?????? If so check out:

They also sell h-mod kits w/ switches for retrofit on your truck

that didn't come with heated or signal mirrors.

They are the guys who make them. There are a bunch of PDF

wiring diagrams there.

Or check out CIPA mirrors.com for other wiring diagrams.

BTW: Do a seach here on "mirror wiring". Tons of posts and

some mention that SOME mirrors are just plug n play after a

PCM reprogramming at the dealer. Not really sure but check

it out !.................geo

Hey thanks! I did do some searching on the forums under those key words...I really hate to bug anyone if there is already an answer available in the forums. Most seemed to be not specific enough regarding the existing wiring harnesses...I will follow up on your leads...A wiring harness pdf or a factory wiring harness diagram would be ideal for my model year. The rest is right there in front of me and can be sorted out with a multimeter, a power supply, and some patience

Ok, I have read everything on the forum related to these darn mirrors. I got the sequence of events down now. But can some smart guy that has the GM Wiring schematic clue me in on the following;

2001 Chevy 2500 HD 4x4 CCSB 8.1L

What is the left turn signal wire color under dash and where is best place to tap

What is the right turn signal wire color under dash and where is best place to tap

Looking at the mirror plug, I have the Heated, power mirrors, what color wire is what on my factory mirrors?

For the 06 Camper mirrors, What color wire = what? Left Turn, Right Turn, Power movements, and Heat?

Thanks, I am drawing this up and using photos so it can be posted somewhere for easy access once I have the color codes down. Trying to make this easy.

LH turn signal wire is Light Blue

RH turn signal wire is Dark Blue

You can tap in just below and to the left of the steering column,You may need to remove some "plastic sheathing" or black electrical tape.

Thanks, I just ordered the mirrors yesterday and had asked a friend with an 06 if I could get into to his door panel so I could meter each wire.

I hated to ask, but he is great guy and friend and said it wouldn't be a problem. I was dreading opening up the door panel of his Brand New Truck.

I just put the '06 towing mirrors on my '03. Finally have the right mirrors for a dually. Was about to give up and put a set of west coast mirrors on when I found the '06 option. Don't think I can offer any assistance to '02 owners but there may be other '03 owners looking for an opinion or help.

The swap out was quite easy and definitely worth the cost to me. The only thing that slowed me down was the connector from the body control module to the underside of the power window switch. GM must have paid a handsome price to NASA to get the rights to use that connector. Why they couldn't have saved themselves $4 on each of the doors and put it toward an underhood light indicates a lack of priority. The cost of the new mirrors at $363 it was less than my insurance deductible. Sooner or later I was going to run someone off the road. The blindspot on the passanger side was big enough to hide a Crown Vic beside me. Not joking. Thank God for the sixth sense that has kept me from merging right more than once only to find somebody was already there.

The convex mirror section is soo big that they didn't have to curve it to the point of distortion. The flat glass portion has more to offer in the vertical aspect than the stock mirrors so that is also a plus. At highway speeds the mirrors are quite steady, even when extended. I experience no new wind noise from these mirrors. I was pleasently surprised to find that the turn indicators worked immediately. Did not have turn signals on my old mirrors and wouldn't have been bothered if this feature didn't work since the prizim area is nearly unnoticeable.

Anyhow,, to the '03 and up crowd with duallys or pulling a camper, can't go wrong with the swap-out.

Are the 06 mirriors also power folding?

No,The '06 camper mirrors are not power folding (Or power extending either)

But like High Mileage said they are the perfect mirror for duallys or if you tow a wide or long trailer.
