Loud squeaking

Hi,

I have a 2003 GMC Sonoma with 51,000 miles on it. Recently, last 5000 miles or so, there has been a very loud squeaking noise coming from the rear of my truck. It is very noticable a slower speeds. You can notice it getting louder at certain parts of the axle rotation and then quiet again and then loud. It has got to the point where you can hear it at 40+ mph with windows up and radio on. I took it to the dealer at about 35,000 miles for the same problem and after an 'inspection' they said they 'didn't hear anything and it was probably just rust.' Also it does not happen when applying the brakes, only when the truck is driving, such as rolling up to an intersection. It also sounds like when the bearings go bad on a trailer and sqeak loudly. So I am thinking that may be the problem with the truck as well. I was wondering if that could be the problem or if there is other things I should be looking at? I will be taking it into the dealer soon and I want to be able to give them an idea of what to look for since last time there was 'nothing wrong.' Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have the u-joints checked. Took a tech a couple attempts to hear it, but I had a similar squeak on my S-10 last summer. I ended up fixing it, then selling it for other reasons.

I agree with the U-Joints. Have them replaced even if they do not see any "slack" in them. Its not that expensive and it eliminates the most probable.

Yeah, the ones in my S-10 were actually rusting and binding, not loose. This is why it took someone a couple tries to find the problem. I should have mentioned that in my previous post.
