Crab Legs

Hey guys,

I am getting ready to pick up 2lbs. or so of crab legs. This is my first time to cook them but I have been told by several people how. I am going to boil in water with crab broil. Does anyone know the proper way to make drawn butter? Or is just melted butter? :bs:

2 sticks unsalted butter, softened

In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Bring to a boil until the milk solids have separated and sunk to the bottom of the pan. Ladle out the clarified butter and place in a warm cup.

:flag: For better results drink beer before, during and after the process.... :bs:

The way I was told by a gourmet market was to run the frozen crab legs under cold water just to wash off the frost then bake them on a cookie sheet at 350 degrees for about 10 to 15 minutes. This basically steams them in the shell. The wife and I have crab legs at least once a month.

I have tried the boiling thing before but it seems the end results are better by baking them.

Crab legs are kinda like shrimp...REALLY hard to mess up.

I usually boil them in the setup I use for deep-frying a turkey. I'll cook a bunch of polish sausage, potatoes, corn-on-the-cob, a couple pounds of shrimp, and a couple pounds of crab legs....All in the same pot with a bunch of cajun seasoning/spices.

I'll eat that load of spicy goodness for 3 days solid.

Yeah but how many toilets do you go through in those 3 days?

CRAB LEGS, What is wrong with the rest of the crab that you wont eat it. Oh, must be that West Coast thing. Go get yourself some Maryland blue crab, some Old Bay seasoning and do it up right.

Yeah, it is work picking tham, but it is well worth it.

Crab legs, actually I think it's a foo foo thing.

Whole Dungeness Crab, no sauces, no shakers of anything, bucket of butter and a bib.

Same for lobsters, whole Maine/Mass, bucket of butter and a bib

BUT, the tomalley is left with carcass, some think they are good eats

Although I live in the desert, I do have the added expense of flying to San Francisco or Boston. Fly the critters here...no that's seafood in the desert.

I have a cast-iron stomach. The only thing that tears me up is coffee...No idea why.

I used Old Bay once. And that was too much.

Well, I just used some crab boil and they turned out pretty good. But, I think next time I will use a little bit more salt and some vinegar to soften up the meat on the inside. I have been thinking about ordering some alaskan king crab. Has anybody ordered some?

Just go with one of the boats on Deadliest Catch. You'll get your king crab legs and get paid about $15 grand to boot!
