Cargo Door Ajar

I'd like to be able to have my DIC tell me if my tailgate is ajar. I'm sure this feature must exist on the Yukon's for example how can I wire this up? I figure the switch on the rear door must run to the BCM, this I can do. But where do the wires connect to the BCM, and even if I figure that out, does the BCM need to be reprogrammed?

are you talking about adding this on to a pickup tailgate or what?  What make, year, model, etc.

Sorry, I forgot my truck details aren't in the sig here

Yes, I want to add this to a pick-up tailgate on a 2003 GMC Sierra, EC/SB, Z71, 5.3L.

BCM Connector C6 (16 wire purple connector) Pin A1 is the cargo/liftgate input to the BCM.

I'd start by grounding/ungrounding that pin while all doors are closed, key on, in Drive, and see if you get some sort of response.

OK I think I found it. It has 5 connectors and is on the drivers floor. No purple connector though, it has Black, Blue, Brown, Grey and White (Natural).

Right, that's what I ment. It has 3 24 Pin connectors (2 rows of 12) and 2 smaller connectors. The 3 big connectors are Blue, Brown and Gray. Pin A1 is already used in the Blue and Grey connectors so my guess is it's pin A1 in the brown connector since that is available. I'll wait for your confirmation before I do anything with it.

You probably have a different BCM than a Yukon, which is what I looked at for the hatch/cargo ajar circuit.

I found this PDF that has some info on the BCM in 2003+ C/K Trucks http://www.gmupfitter.com/publicat/2004_BB...Electric_CK.pdf

On page 300 it has some info on different pins of the BCM. It says J6-A1 is CAJAR (WUFR) which is I assume what I want, but I'm not sure how do decipher J6-A1. I assume that means connector J6 pin A1. Is there a way to know what J6 is?

Page 300 that I looked at had some sort of seat information, not BCM at all.

Anyway, I can't help much more than I have. Good luck finding the info you need.

OK I figured out what was going on. You were right about my BCM being different than the Yukon BCM. Over at the Avalanche forums I found some pictures of the BCM and on the Avalanche and Yukon style BCM there is a 6th connector on the back side of the unit that is purple (the one I need). On the trucks this connector is missing :driving:
