2500HD Tailgate Cap Plastic P.N.

Well we were sliding an old 40" Westinghouse electric range off the truck today at the scrapyard and destroyed the plastic tailgate protector cap . Had the truck for a little less than a month now and im sure it wont be covered by the dealer so I am going to have my buddy at another dealer get it for me at his price.

What is the part number for that stick on plastic cap? 2006 Silverado 2500HD

(its not the bolt on whale tale style cap)

I think while im at it im going to also order the 1500 chin spoiler for the HD. I was reading on DieselPlace.com that guys installed the chin spoiler on their DMAX's and got a few extra mpg on the highway.

01.......Just a warning..............

A aftermarket gate cap will not work on your truck !

Your stuck buying one from the dealer.

WHY?

The aftermarket ones are shorter on the bottom and will NOT

cover the factory bolt holes for the waletail.

ALL NBS tailgates have the holes from the factory................

Hopefully you dealer will warranty it !.......................geo

I damaged mine and installed an aftermarket one which did cover the holes, I just can't remember who makes it. The hardest part was to get the old tape off and after one yaer now, one corner of the aftermarket cap lifted up and I need to put some more 3M tape under it.

Shooter....Could be because of the brand..............

My bud took off his whaletail because his bed cap door wouldn't

clear it enough to close. He bought a aftermarket gate cap and

it wouldn't cover the screw holes so he got one from the dealer.

I have a really really hard time believing the MPG claim but the 1500 cover does look nicer. Another nice thing about the 1500 cap is you can set a beer can on it!

I thought the 2500 tail cap was only taped on as no screws are visible like the 1500's
