Which fan clutch should I use?

I've got a '92 half ton extended cab truck that we bought new. Over the life of the truck, I've changed the fan clutch two or three times. I really don't drive the truck that often any more, but I like for everything to work right when I do.

We're having a pretty hot summer here in Texas right now. I drove this truck around quite a bit yesterday. On the highway, the truck did just fine. Any time that I sat and idled or had to stop for a red light, the temperature on the truck would creep up.

The last time that I changed the fan clutch was three or four years ago. I guess it is time to do it again. Three or four years seems to be the lifespan of these thermal fan clutches.

My questions: If I go back with a thermal clutch again, which brand is best? Are the aftermarket brands as good as OEM?

I know that if I decide to go non-thermal, I know that I'm supposed to have more noise and less gas mileage, but exactly how much more noise and less gas mileage should I expect?

I'm considering doing away with a fan clutch altogether and just running the fan all the time. If this isn't a good idea, please tell me why.

Thanks.

I have had a bit of experience with fan clutches and the oem ones are the best and cheapest in the long run. 100, ooo miles is typical life. the auto zone units just don't work or last as well.
