:gmc: Got More Class I just got home from the gym and on ther way home, a near stock or over stock neon SRT4 pulled up right beside, curious i decided to give it, forgeting i had the a/c on (gym) he pulled away by half a car legth at firstthen i think he hit 3rd and he was gone, at the next light i shut the cooler off and pulled down a gear (3rd). i kept up with him for a while he was only ahead buy a bumper length until the next light came, same thing happend again, pretty f'n close. can anybody tell me if they've raced one, i hear those things run low 13's from the dealer and the cheapest and fastest passenger car on the market, get back at me. hoo hoo.

He must not have been all in, or he only had the SRT badges. Those little buggers are nasty. They outrun me.

Of course...I don't really care how fast it is...It's still a f'n Neon.

Good-night, them little bastards have 230 horses and 250 ft lbs @ 2200 rpms! I thought "how fast could a neon be" then I saw its specs...230hp in a >3000lb car

Edit: Just got some info on that "thing". 0-60 in 5.4 0-100 in 13.8, 1/4 mile in 14.2 and it says the top speed is 152. He was either playing with you, or can't drive.

Something seems a little off there. 0-100 in 13.8, but does the quarter in 14.2? That would mean he is well over 100mph in the 1/4 mile at 14.2 seconds. I did the 1/4 in 14.1 at 95mph. Must be the gearing i guess.

Several modded SRT Neons at our track in the 11's. Stock think they are mid to high 13's. Driver dependant. I outrun some, others I don't.

A note on having the A/C on. In my truck anyway. At 100% throttle the PCM turns off the A/C for you.

I don't think I've seen one go over 14 in the 1/4, by that I mean they're faster than 14's.

And my AC compressor shuts off at WOT too.

My wife's '05 grand am GT can out run me from the stop easily as well. And that's a 3000lb. car with only 175hp/200tq. Fromt a 30mph roll.. well thats another story when the vortec is able to unload.

But, I could only imagine the buttwhoopin an srt-4 would do.

u prolly kept up with it in the launch because of no traction on his end(fwd) yes most have an lsd but gets overpowered easily. as far as being up in the mph or in 3rd out of most any trucks league. being that they are turbo with mopar intake and bov and exhaust will easily put it into the mid to low 13's with good driver

FWD cars usually have a pretty high trapspeed for their ET because they can't get off the line like a RWD can. For instance, my RSX runs [email protected] and my buddies truck runs 15.1@89. Our races consist of him eating me up in the first 1/8 mile, but by the time we pass each other (right at 1/4 mile) I'm pulling pretty hard on him.

And in regards to the SRT-4, it's a high 13 second car at 100+mph through the traps. Just a few mods puts it seriously close to low-mid 13s. And it really has enough power to keep up with mid 13 cars/trucks from a roll, but like all FWDs it's just got too much power to launch effectively.

Ahhhhhh........Wouldn't a FWD car have an advantage at launch due to 75% of the cars weight is on the front tires?

Reason FWD cars tend to be slower at launch is they tend to have high rpm HP, instead of tree pulling TQ down low like a V8 truck.

But correct me if my theory is wrong here.

Yup, I've got beat by a few of these little rockets......but let them try me with a few inches of Snow on the ground :banghead:

Allthough they have plenty of weight over the driving wheels...........the problem is that the weight transfer that occurs on launch far exceeds the actual weight over the front tires.......allot of this has to do with suspension...........and with stiffer suspension FWD cars can get better launches....
