Intermediate Steering Shaft?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have read the posts here regarding the intermediate steering shaft problems, and have a question.

My 2001 2500HD (85K miles) does not seem to have much of a clunk or ratchet when the wheel is being turned. However, the steering has an awful lot of play in it (dead spot between 11:30 and 12:30) when tracking straight. This will scare the crap out of you some times when first entering a curve at speed!!

I have checked the tie rods, etc, and wheel bearings and all seem to be tight.

Will a defective intermediate shaft cause this play? If so I'll order the Borgeson shaft.

Thanks again!!

I think you'll want to eliminate any steering box play before you start replacing parts.
