sonoma wont start

so i put the key in and turn it to start like normal, but it just clicks. and doesnt start. whats wrong? its a 2000 gmc sonoma.

Sounds like battery needs to be replaced.

Definately sounds like an almost dead battery, or poor connections. Here's what I'd do:

1. Disconnect battery, clean connectors, reconnect and try again. If this works, cover connections w/grease (to stop corrosion) and leave it be. If not, continue.

2. Attempt charging battery with a. battery charger or b. another vehicle if you have the option and some jumper cables. If the truck starts, let it run for 10 minutes, shut off, come back in a few hours and try to start it again. If it starts, go have it checked at an auto parts store. Replace anything that's bad. If battery will not charge, replace battery (take alternator with you, have it tested just to be safe).

i found the problem. the alternator went out so i put a new one in, and went ahead and got a new battery too. thanks for the help
