Sideview Mirror Heater

Both of my side view mirror heaters no longer work. The service dept told me I needed to replace the mirror motor because its all one unit. The mirror motor works.

Any ideas before I go through this expense?

You should be able toi get just the glass, where the heater grid is. But I'm not a parts guy so I can't say for sure.

 

If both are out, maybe it's something in the controlling end rather than the heater itself.

 

And by the way, how the heck did you notice this in the middle of summer?

It's been out since last winter. The service dept told me I needed the whole moter for $400 +, so, I've done without.

If the motor goes out for adjusting the mirror, its covered by warranty. If the heater element in the motor for defrosting the mirrors go out, they are not covered by the warranty. Makes sense?!?!

Your idea of it being the heater grid on back of the glass is worth looking into before replacing a motor. Thanks!

I have the same situation. On my 2000 Suburban the glass heater is part of the glass itself. The motor does not affect the heating element. The glass has two electrical clips to which the heating wires attach. The replacement heated glass mirror was about $80 from the dealer. The motor was part of the problem.
