2007 GM Trucks

Is GM keeping the same transmission in these NBS trucks for '07? If so, why? The article seemed to talk about the interiors more than anything. I like the NBS but I was hoping they'd go with a new tranny since the 4L60E's suck so bad. I'm not anti-GM and will probably buy one myself but I just wish they'd come up with a better tranny. What is everyone elses opinion?

I've read the trannys are staying in the 1500's for the '07's with a six speed auto available for the '08's.

Personally, I'm pissed at GM (and all the other automakers) for slowly phasing out the 5 speed in trucks. The only thing I wish I could change about my '00 is that I wanted a 5 speed, but it's only available for a 4.8L and V-6. I like picking my own gears

Same here, I like manual transmissions. I guess people are too lazy to shift these days, so manual ransmission vehicles are slowly and surely disappearing.

Best pickup I ever owned was a 91 S10 4.3 w/ 5 speed manual...and that lil' SOB would pull alot

4L65e...I read it is about 25% stronger.

From the way I read the articles that are out it will have the same but a improved six speed trans. is on the way.

Wonder if it has to do with customer preference (i.e. sales) or emissions (better with auto) or able to handle power better (New Allison can handle the more powerful Duramax, while manual gets de-tuned Max)???

I was a die-hard manual tranny guy...until I got my 99 Z-71. Man was that truck a rocket. Now I'm driving an HD with 8.1/Allison. Great tranny. Love it. I will say that my "project truck" is a 72 K-20 with 350/4 speed. Wanted the manual tranny in that one

By 6 speed trans he's taking about a 6 speed automatic, not manual:) I think it has more to do with "it's not ready yet." GM doesn't want a tranny bomb in their new trucks. The trucks are being "rushed" to market (they had at one time pushed them back to '08, and they will now be out in a couple months) so I think GM ran out of time to get the new tranny ready, so the 4l60E will carry over for the '07's because they know it's a purty good tranny.

I'm currently doing a "frame on" resto of a 67 C-10. It's about 85% done

The 6speed is already in the Corvette & some Cadillacs but there isnt enough production availibility to support the trucks until 2008.

I was wondering if that was the tranny they were going to use or if it was going to be an all new one for the truck line.

That 6 speed is for #1500 LD and replaces the 4L60-65E and also goes in the Corvette & Cadillacs with big engines like the XLR supercharged. This transmission like the 4 speed must pass emissions & fuel mileage laws. Unlike the 6 speed Allison which has none of those requirements.
