New Impala SS

My mom picked one of these up and i have been driving it for about a month. Its a 2005 Impala ss black. The car comes with a 5.3l horizontally mounted v8 that pumps out 303hp. I love the powerband in this car. It will throw you back in the seat no matter how fast you are going. The motor sounds great and as it ages it just keeps getting better. Its a comfortable car, im 6' tall and have no problems. It handles quite well for a larger sedan too. Cornering at high speeds is not a problem. plenty of trunk space and rear seat space make this car practicle and comfortable. Another great feature is at higher speeds the motor cuts out 4 cylinders which increases gas milage to about 32mpg. The radio is great and has a connection specifically for mp3 players built right in. I only have a few quams with the car. The biggest one is that it is front wheel drive and a car with this much power (It is alot) should be rear wheel drive, it can get quite squirrely on you on quick take-offs. The second is its problem with windshield fogging. Some times the d**n thing just wont defrost whether it is 50 degrees outside or 80. This car is a blast to drive i love it. Just the other day i dared to take it up to 120mph and it is no slouch, it could have gone faster and it felt amazingly smooth. This car has muscle, and im no novice when it comes to quick cars, another ride in our garage is a 87 vette and this car could easily keep up with it (granted in 87 they werent the fastest but its stil a vette). Anyways, for the price (around $30k) i think this is one of the better cars you can get. If your looking for a mid priced sports sedan, pick this one, its like a lazy-boy on wheels that occasionally takes a shot of pure testosterone.

The front-wheel drive really doesn't settle well with me. Another thing I don't like is the size. Impalas have traditionally been full size cars and this car seems like a glorified Cavalier. I think I'll wait for the new Camaro.

These are mid size. Little longer than Malibu.

They're not a '96 Impala SS and I'll still wait for the Camaro.

The windshield fogging happens in all vehicles I'm told. It's supposedly the plastic venting and somehow causing fog on the window (not for sure exactly how it works). I get the same thing on my truck and everyone I talk to gets it so I dont know how to fix the problem permanently. Nice ride though I wish I had a car with a little power to drive around in instead of my dog for a truck but that can be fixed :banghead:

The fogging on the inside is chemical vapors from the plastic dash. Only way to fix it really is to get one of those carpet dash covers.

I've got a 2000 Impala with the 3.8 v6. It can get up and move when it wants to. It gets a solid 33-34 mpg on highway at 70 mph and about 29 city.

My wife's Impala gets 27-28 on the highway and about 24 with mixed driving. Nice looking car, but the fit and finish leave a LOT to be desired.

The new Impala's look a little bland, but they are growing on me. It reminds me a LOT of the Accord. Personally, I think the new Camry is a better looking car, but I have not driven one and driving one is the way to know how a car really is. We will end up driving the Impala we have until the wheels fall of because resale on that car is in the toilet. I wish there were better resale values on GM cars. If so, we would trade more often. I won't take a beating on a car, just to get a new one just like it.

I would like to drive the new Impala to see if it has more room than the one I own. I hope so.

I have a new 2006 Impala I got for a work vehicle - great perk BTW!

It has the 3.5L V6 and right now my trip computer is reporting a total avg of 23MPG. Another thing I do not like about the car is how heavy it feels... I could not image what a 5.3L up front would do... then again, I'm used to my wifes GTI with feels like its on rails.

They are slightly bigger. The people I work with still have the older style for a company car. Everyone who has rode in mine noticed its slightly bigger on the inside. Also they are getting 28-30MPG whereas I'm getting 23 right now with 5k on the clock.

Could it be my driving? Nahhhh....

32 MPG out of an Impala SS? In your dream only!

My father got 31 on the hwy with his 2001 Z28 6-speed. Don't forget those SSs drop to 4 cyl on the hwy. 32 is probably pretty reasonable.

Nice car. They have nice power at a good price.

Sad to hear it is not doing much better than me on mileage though. Went on a 3000 mile road trip a few weeks ago. On the way back, 1,100+ miles, Santa Barbara, CA to Denver, CO, I averaged 82mph and got 24.4 mpg. I had a friends wedding to be at on Saturday and had to be at work Monday morning, long day Sunday. On the way out, I average 26.7 mpg and one tank I averaged 30.6 over 400+ miles. My usual, on average, with about half city, half highway I get around 22mpg.

Think this proves GM needs to get off their butts and get more 6 speeds into cars and trucks. Love the goat, and hope more Holdens find their way state side.

    • I found an odor eliminator spray that neutralizes unwanted smells pretty well. Using it with the car's AC running helps to distribute it evenly around the cabin.
    • WTI futures / speculation is just that. WTI futures <> current 4-7% inflation and national average gas price over $4.00/gallon.   The spot price, at delivery, is currently $87-$95/barrel which is why gas prices remain high.   Edit: oH mY gOd mEnTaL BrEaKdoWn In tHE pOsT aBOve mInE. • He does, actually. In another unrelated video he mentions the president called him in the middle of the night to relay some information on a cause (religious based) that he's invested in. Glenn expressed concern that another leftist administration could wield too much power with some procedure the Pentagon was using, classifying certain religions a certain way. Being that he is LDS (Latter Day Saints), he gets hate all the time from ALL over the political spectrum, so he's invested in this. Trump called him back at 5AM to tell him he had made some changes to that classification.   So, yes, they are and have been in contact regularly since the start of the administration. Glenn, of course, always asks his permission before discussing anything on the air.   I already spent an hour or more just searching for these videos. I may have my numbers wrong - I'm not a numbers guy. It may have been a MILLION barrels, not 1.5. The point is, our President, by his actions, gives a crap about America, and US - this is completely OPPOSITE the actions of the prior administration who projected hatred for anyone who wasn't following the left's edicts in lock-step.   Remember, they called January 6th an "Insurrection", when there were ZERO weapons among the crowd, undercover FBI agents agitating the crowd, along with paid leftists acting as aggressors, egging the crowd on in an attempt to whip everyone into a frenzy. It's all been proven.  Pelosi refused Trumps request for more National Guard troops. This smells 100% like an inside job for those with critical thinking skills. Only a handful of guys in the crowd got wrapped up in that, thankfully, but EVERYONE was searched out based on cell phone data, and charges were brought against many. And 6 or so people were locked up and left in solitary confinement for YEARS with ZERO due process!! If you give the slightest crap about our Nation, REGARDLESS of your political leanings, this should frighten you to your core. This is what men suffered, bled, fought, and died against 250 years ago!   This has gone FAR BEYOND left vs. right. This is a  threat to America, and our way of life. This is PRECISELY why Trump, a BILLIONAIRE who could have chosen to take Melania and sit on some tropical island that he could afford to buy himself and RELAX, instead chose to run for office, get hate from literally every corner of the media, get ATTEMPTS on his LIFE constantly, and begin to repair some of the severe damage that's been done to this Great Nation.   I don't know why I bother wasting my precious time here. Everyone has their minds made up. They won't realize we all were correct until it's too late ... after they elect another tyrant that hates America to office (Obama), or another puppet whose administration is secretly running the show behind the scenes (Biden).
    • Hello, Im in a bit of a bind maybe someone could help me out.  We towed our trailer, up a pretty steep incline (395 north of Bishop) done it before no issues. I got to our campground turn truck off, i restarted the truck about an hour later  and check engine light turns on. Found DTC P2C48,  unable to reset.  This morning i removed the plug, there's 12.12v at the plug. Reservoir near firewall is full of coolant, checked for leaks nothing. I dont hear or feel the pump turning on. My dilemma, is nearest dealer  is 4hrs away that has the pump instock. Is it safe to drive? By me checking the available voltage at the connector and not hearing/feeling pump turn on, is it a bad pump? Please help...
