Wandering Steering 03 Z71 Ext Cab

I have been fighting this for some time now and hopefully GM Tech or someone can help.

 

I had my steering box relaced b/c it was way to hard to turn to the left, but ever since then my steering feels loose and the truck wanders on the highway, I have tried adjusting the box, but to no avail. It either becomes too sensative or too hard to turn comfortably. I have also had the tires replaced since the problem started, and two alignments. While driving especially on the ineterstate it will start to wonder to the left then a correction will make it wonder to the right, It also likes to kind of go in one of the two directions when you give it gas, ie speed up to pass someone. If the road is bumpy it is even worse. Any suggestions??? It almost feels like there is some play in the front end ,but when you move the steering wheel the tires follow with out any delay, I also jacked up the front end and moved the steering wheel with the engine off and got the same results.

I am not sure witch system you have on your truck but if you have a steering position sensor at the base of the steering column, that would be a good place to start. I have seen them make a vehicle steer very strange. Another thing, I know you said you had it aligned twice but that does not mean it was set correctly. Make sure you have enough caster. Most come from the factory set way too low. I would set the right side at about 4.5 and the left about 4.0. A lot of shops just set the toe and let it go.
