E-brake light fading/flickering

Must be my day for problems. Went to go to a meeting and my emergency brake light flickered real lightly on and off, fading almost like a short, but never came completely on. Tried to set the brake, and release it. Anyone else have a problem like this? I assume its some sort of sensor maybe misaligned or something thinking that the ebrake is being put on?

I noticed my 2004 silverado doing the same thing this morning. It is a faint red glow from the indicator, when I set the brake it comes on like normal but when I release it the light will faintly glow.

Anybody have any ideas, I don't want to go to the dealer for this if I can help it.

They claimed I had bare wiring down by the emergency brake pedal that they taped back up. But the funny thing is, I had it happen again the other day. Its kind of cool looking but its pissing me off. Probably have to take it back in again.

I found an old post in the GM Tech section and added a reply, I also found an old post where somebody disconnected the neg battery cable and the faint light went out. That is my next move tonight. I am afraid of finding a dead battery one morning because the light seems to be lit all the time.

Mine is a 2004 as yours is...but my light isnt on all the time. In fact I've drove it a few times, the only time I have seen it come on is at dusk or nighttime when the headlights are on. I haven't seen it any other time. I'm hoping to take my truck out tonight since gas prices have FINALLY come down...must be election year....and we'll see if it comes on.

brake fluid level sensor. as a guess check the level if it's close to min add a wee bit see if the light goes out.

Guess what I noticed this morning? The e-brake light is on all the time, very dim but easy to see in the dark, Did anyone find an answer? I dont see any bare wires in the area, I guess I have to let the dealer rip my dash apart. Thanks

Ok mine finally came on all the time and stays on. Whether the vehicle is running, or the key is completely out of the ignition. I'm glad though so the dealer can see I am not crazy. They have a new cluster on order, so hopefully I can get my baby back before the weekend.

*** Update *** Got the new cluster in and the light magically disappears. Now in talking with more and more people, I'm hearing there are a lot more people starting to have this type of problem. Just glad warranty covered it
