service 4wd/brake booster msg

Recommended Posts

On my way home this evening, a message popped up saying "Service 4wd" and "Service Brake Booster". WTF!!!! I searched the first and found lots of info, searched the brake booster message and nothing. I'm stumped, help please. I didn't pay good money for these sort of problems.

I just had my service 4wd come on, but then it went off and everythings been fine(no idea).

Check your fuses, and wiring. Could be a wire swinging around with an open contact touching something.

What was wierd is that this morning, nothing was displayed. It is a little nervous seeing a message that says "Service Brake Booster". My pregnant wife just loves reading that one. Any takers on how she reacted?

Have you found out what was causing the service brake booster message?

I had the same message this morning on my way to work. Is it something I should be concerned about right away? I first noticed it after I sat at a stoplight with my foot on the brake. My brakes feel like they have from day one (soft). The truck is also a 2003 and it has 67000 miles on it. I'm planning on going out of town this weekend and wondering if it needs to be taken care of before I leave.

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanx,

Cliff

My '04 gave the "service brake booster" message just once a couple years ago. Brought it in under warranty and they found no codes. It happened on a frigid winter night in the single digits so i figured maybe that caused the booster to lose vacuum somehow. Hasn't done it since. Didn't seem to affect the brakes which, of course, are lousy to begin with.

The typical "Service 4WD" message is usually a bad dash switch assembly. Some of these had poor soldering jobs and they cause the CPM to not see the 4WD system sensors. Another problem is the indicator lights going out. Figure about $50 for the switch and it's easily replacable at home.

The switch is made by Lucas, the same people that put fear and terror into the hearts of those people that drove early English sportscars

The service brake booster message hasn't came back on mine yet either. Just the one trip to work yesterday. It wasn't cold here just a little rainy. Hopefully it's not a big deal, it was just a message on DIC, like low washer fluid, and not a check engine light. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. thanx for the info.
