I am wanting to get exhaust put on my husbands 2005 GMC Sierra 2500HD, but I want it to sound good, Im thinking straight pipes from the converter back, with 3 1/2 to 5 inch tips anyone have a better suggestion. We like em loud!

5" tips!? Is it a diesel?

long tube headers with 3" open exhaust all the way to the bumper.

Actually, 3" exhaust from the cat back would hurt performance. You could go for a 3" in/dual 2.5" out Muffler of choice, and run 2.5'' out the back with 3" or 4" or whatever sized tips you want.

If youre wanting to go straight pipes, you could get a Y pipe thats 3" in after the cat (i think the stock size is 3" up to the muffler) and 2.5" out and run straight pipes out the back with whatever tips you want.

ive got 3inch from the cat to the y pipe , then its 2.5 back , i have a dyno max bullet muffler its straight thru and only 16" by 4" its more of a resonator than a muffler, i got it from jegs , 40 bucks sounds really mean . hope this helps

3" in dual 2.5" out sounds about right. Just a bit bigger than stock without losing backpressure, if that is concern. If not a concern, the mid range could open up with headers, true dual 3" in/out all the way back.

Go street legal headers if you can find them for your application. Try JBA Headers.

As far as muffler, I have been satisfied with Magnaflow for years now on all my vehicles. I like the low deep sound and open design Magnaflow has brought forth. Borla has a good sound, I don't know if they make them for your application. Also check Dynomax.

Check with TBryne, a sponsor here, he handles better than decent performance products at decent prices. I was just researching the products last night that he deals with for a buddy of mine that has a SRT8 6.1 Charger. He's been good with the F-Body crowd as well. Definately has a good name out there for himself. Then you would have to find an installer at your choosing.

Good Luck! :)
