rear differential wine

I am a newbe to this forum. Just pruchased a 2000 GMC 2wd regular cab positraction with 60,000 miles. I notice on deceleration that the rear end make a slight whining sound. Anyone else experience this and any ideas about its cause?

If you're unsure of the history of the truck, and whether the rear axle lube has ever been changed, or even checked, you might be able to get rid of the whine just by changing the rear axle lube. Make sure you use the right stuff--the locking axle might require a special additive available at your GM parts counter.

 

If changing the lube doesn't fix the whine, you could either live with it or take it to an axle shop and have them check it out.

Thanks for your reply. I have read about royal purple. Is that the best choice or should I use Gm stuff or something else?

I am using the Royal Purple in my diff right now and very happy with it. I will use it again.
