Time for first oil change on my 8.1... Tips?

Only thing I can find around here is the Fram filter.  I guess I will have to make a trip to the dealer for the AC Delco Filter.  PF-454 right?

 

I couldn't find a Mobil1 filter or even a K&N.  Do they make one?

 

Changing to Mobil1 10w-30.  Any reason I should not @ 3k miles?

I would wait for a while, I assume that this will be your 2nd oil change, 3k is borderline break-in. 6k would probably be better.

weather or not u go to synthetics this early is up to you I have heard many convincing comments iether way

 

I did at 1200 to try to stop/reduce cold start knock, it did not help the knock but my motor seams to be broke in just fine I got 13.8MPG on a recent trip @55mph on south GA backroads (still ~10 arround town w/heavy foot)

 

 

you should see if u can get a acdelco ultra gaurd gold they are the best IMO

 

if u have a 2wheel drive u can upgrade your filter to a pf1218 there is no clearance on the 4wheel for a larger filter

Some people will suggest waiting for a few more miles to change to synthetic.  Break in is actually at around 300 miles.  If a break-in period was required before adding synthetic, I don't think Vette's, Dodge Vipers and engines made by Mercedes and Porsche would come from the factory with synthetic.  There is nothing documented from Mobil or anywhere else saying synthetics will have a negative effect on engine break-in.  My 2 cents -
