when i bought my new silverado 1500 it came with a snow plow package, a bigger alternator a skid plate and a button for lights on the roof but everyone i know says a plow is too much for just a 1/2 ton and it will never work

can it be done even with a light duty plow?

I have a 7 1/2 ft plow on my 02 1500. I cranked the torsion bars up to keep the front end from bottoming out though. My plow was installed by the dealer when I bought the truck. You could also use Timbrin blocks in the front end to help keep the front end up. I would assume that if the truck came with the plow prep package it is OK to put the plow on. Just to be safe, ask the dealer.

I have had many plows installed on 1500's over the years with no problems. I have never had the plow package. I have had plows on two Avalanches ( 2002 and a 2004). None of these were light duty. They were all Fisher plows. You will have no problem. :ughdance:

What specifically makes a 2500 better equipped for plowing? Is it the transmission, frame, suspension?

I know it can be done as I have seen it multiple times on a 1500.

All of the above, plus bigger engine and bigger differential gears/axles.

I see 1500's with plows all over the place here in Maine. If you want to use it to plow professionally, I'd advise against that, but if you are only doing 10 or less normal size drive ways you should be more than fine.

If you can put a plow on an ATV, you can put one on a 1/2 ton truck.

That's just how I look at it though :ughdance:

yea i was thinkin that too

I'm just talking out of my ass here, but I think there might be a slight size difference between the two plows =).

As there would be a size/weight difference between a plow that goes on a 1 ton and a plow that goes on a 1/2 ton.

But then...I've never had a plow either...I was just assuming that they made smaller, lighter ones for light-duty applications (like a 1/2 ton).

So I'm talking out of my a$$ too.
