SIR-GM1 Owners with NAV Touch Screen Help

I’ve got question for all you SIR-GM1 owners out there with the touch screen Nav radio. I installed a SIR-GM1 in my 2006 Yukon with factory XM/DVD/touch screen Nav system. I noticed when I hit the band button or try and use the option to switch between categories the radio will momentarily switch to the selected category before jumping back to whatever channel the radio was on when I turned on the unit.

Anyone else with this problem or anyone with a solution?

Thanks!

I just installed this thing and have the exact same problem. I wrote tech support and this was there BS response:

The Reply:

All tech support must go thru an authorized dealer. Tech support will only be provided for items purchased on this website. Contact 1800 274-0200 for dealer locator. We are unable to provide info for GMC head units. You can try swapping the unit out and check if your problem is resolved, but other than that it might be a normal function. Sorry for the inconvenience and hopefully you can get your issue resolved. Thanks DEI

ORIGINAL REQUEST:

I just installed a SIR-GM1 in my 2004 GMC truck. I have the factory touch-screen navigation head unit. The unit behaves as expected, with one exception...when the radio is displaying the map view and you press the BAND button, it will often will change to a different Sirius station.

My problem is exactly as you describe (I simplified it a bit in my email to them as too much information is a BAD THING when talking to tech support :ughdance:)

You can press the CD button and then BAND button in rapid succession to achieve the desired behavior (annoying, but I'll tolerate it to get rid of XM crap). If you ordered directly from DEI, PLEASE try sending them an email via support and let us know the result. My guess would be they'll eventually correct this problem if they get enough flak... and when they do, I'll be going after the new version. I bought mine at Circuit City, so there's no way in hell they'll help me

Well, I have called DEI Tech Support and spoke to a tech. He first sent me a PDF with photos of the supported radio's to make sure my radio was compatible. I also swapped out my first one with new one to make sure it was not a faulty unit...it wasn't.

I then called tech support back and was told that it must be an issue with my radio not interpreting the data from Sirius the same way XM did. They said that because of that it pretty much is the way it is gonna be. He also suggested I call Sirius Tech Support and see if they have every heard of it, since it was a new issue to DEI. I called Sirius Tech and the basically said "I don't know" and there was nothing they could do.

I also emailed the DEI Tech that sent me the PDF file and asked about a fix or upcoming fix and did not hear back. Since it is my wifes car, she pretty much hates that it keeps changing channels because she does a lot of channel surfing. I am afraid until DEI fixes the problem it is gonna be back to XM for her.

What number did you call at DEI? I'd like to call it too, might help our cause here a bit. This appears to me to be an oversight on the part of DEI with regard to the nav systems. The system is listening for a BAND press and recalling the previously set station. On a normal (non-nav) radio, pressing BAND always results in a new source being selected, so this behavior would be acceptable. On the nav radio BAND has two functions (changing bands and switching to the tuner display).
