Will gas mileage improve? 06 1500 z71 5.3 flexfuel

I just got this vehicle and it's a great truck. It's been a while since I've had a truck and it's nice to be back in a chevy.

Have just reached 300 miles and steadily heading toward the 500 mile break-in. Will gas mileage improve over time and past the break-in point?

How accurate is the computer mileage calculator? Hoping their's some fudge in there too and I'm actually doing better than what it says?

Otherwise I'm getting a little itchy seeing 11 mpg on that screen.

What happens during break-in that improves mileage or why is mileage bad to start with before beak-in?

Maybe someone has some idea? Thanks.

I to just got a new GMC crew cab 1500, first tank of gas mix driving about 15 mpg. I just got back from a trip about 300 hwy miles and got 20.4 mpg on the trip computer :gmc:

This has nothting really to do with the truck.

What happens, is that when you first get it, you really don't take as much notice, since everything is new, you just need to get used to stuff.

Then one day you take notice and see that the econnomy is not as good as you expected, and start to take more care. As well as this you are now more familiar witht he truck, so you start driving smoother.

Basically its all about dirving habits, which get much better when you want to get better economy.

I've had my Z71, 5.3L for about 3 months now, traded my '04 2500HD for it to get better MPG....I was getting 18-19mpg in the begining, but am now getting 16-17mpg....I attribute the decrease due to me getting used to the truck and driving it a little harder....not too hard, but just not babying anymore....I wonder if they added that stuff to the gas up here in the NE for the winter months ?....maybe that plays a part in it also ?
