steering clunk?

My truck has the steering clunk and i was wondering if it will hurt anything if i dont get it fixed im tired of going to the dealer?

 

 

 

 

 

Probably not...just annoying.

 

 

 

 

 

I have it also and it's under warranty but I need the truck for work and don't want to lay it up. A mechanic friend of mine said it won;t hurt anything to not fix it but as the previous poster said it is annoying. Perhaps this winter I will get it taken care of.

Mine is going in as soon as I can get an appointment. I don't know how you could stand it for very long... mine has got much worse since the weather has turned cooler. I just wish GM would fix something :cheers: ....................

GM has just released a new intermediate steering shaft and upgraded the service bulletin. P/N is 19153614. Cost is $104

Finally a part number, I've tried to find it for a while. GM Parts direct has it for $54, I am going to order it as soon as I post this. I can't wait to get home...I got my whole stereo system to replace (see sig for upgrade), front left hub (part at the house), and now my ISS...going to need alot of beer. I love this place!!:banghead:

Edit: GmPartsdirect.com wanted $12 in shipping, so I went to Partszoneonline.com and got it $60 shipped.

I had this clunk and called my dealer. There is a TSB out on this #00-02-35-003M that listed the new part number and the fix. I took mine in and mentioned the TSB and they fixed it for free. My truck is out of warranty but since there is a TSB out on this they should fix it for free. Ask your dealer before you go out and buy this on your own. After they put the new shaft in my steering was tighter and the clunk was gone.

While it was under warranty, I had my 2003 1500HD fixed twice at the dealer on this intermediate steering shaft issue. My personal mechanic said this has been a common problem on many GM vehicles, as noted by others here. After a year or so, the clunk is coming back a bit and I know it will slowely get worse. I am hopeful they will fix mine for free too, but we'll see. Glad they've redesigned the shaft.
