Front 6.5" speaker replacement

A question from a newbie -

 

Could anyone walk me through replacing the front 6.5" speakers on my 06 Silverado? I checked with some installation pros and it's going to run more than I have right now. Any information, pics, etc. someone can give me, that'd begreat. It's my first Silverado and I don't want to break anything. Do you have to take the door panel off - cause I don't know if I wanna get into that...

Yeah, the door panel has to come off. But it's not very difficult to do.

Panel has to come off. The best instructions I've seen (I used 'em) are from Crutchfield. If you buy your speakers from them, they send you everything you need for the installation. I have a regular cab, and the rear speakers were a PITA. But, with their instructions, I knew what I was doing.

You could always buy Walmart speakers.

I agree, crutchfield definitely has the best directions for this, however they are usually more expensive because of it. I replaced all the speakers in my 02 sierra and it was pretty easy. Door panels can be a pain in the rear but these were pretty easy. I've had them off twice now since then and it gets easier every time. Just have to remove a couple screws around the handle and things, pop a few plastic panels off and then the whole door panel pops off with a little effort. Just be careful not to break the clips. Im sure the 06 is different but i dont imagine they could be THAT different.
