sylvania silverstars

hey gang, went and bought a pair of the sylvania silverstars today for the '06 2500HD. Havent had the chance yet to try them out in the dark, but will update the difference when i get the chance. I only changed the low beams.

I was amazed how easy it was to do on this truck. I was a bit worried that it would be more difficult. Was actually easier and quicker to do on this truck than it was on my '87 K20.

Has anyone changed out the high beams with the silverstars? Is there a big enough improvement to warrant the change to them?

I replaced all four front lamps with Silverstars a little over a year ago, great mod!

Not worth the retail price IMO, wait for a sale or special of some kind

Be sure to give us your full unbiased impression. I have always wanted to try the SILVERSTARS, but at $35 a pair even at WallyWorld, the price is a bit steep. For me, I would have to do both HI/LOW beams. I couldn't bear the thought of driving around with the nice white lo beams, then clicking on those awful yellow HI's. All or nothing for me.

I have heard that on occasion they off rebates. Maybe I'll spring for them when my rig becomes a cyclops!

i've got them in my low and fogs and love them...also had them in my last truck too.

only problem is they burn out real quick...the set in my last truck lasted about a yr and this truck the first set went in 6 months...on my second set already

fogs are fine so far...just headlights

6 months is good for life span. I had them on my dakota, and they went out in under 4.

That's nuts! With the amount of money they want for these things, they outta be able to make'em last for at least as long as the oem bulbs.

I use the high and loe beam silverstars and I installed a headlight kit that enables them all to stay on when the High beams are selected. It's great when running on the desert roads that have lots of rolling hills.

tried them.....very happy with the lighting, but......lasted only about three/four months.....now I have PIAA bulbs about $75 pair, but the off road shop I bought them from said lifetime warranty, got a year so far.....next I want the high beams, and the wiring kit to make them all come on with highs.....

I run silverstars in my bike.. Love them... WHen they go on sale I will put them in the new truck... I did buy some yesterday for the front turn signals.. Have to get rid of the yellow tint bulbs up there...

Went to work last night and had the first opportunity to try out the new headlights. Here are a couple of observations that i noticed:

I have the rearview mirror that automatically dims where there is a vehicle behind me, and turns it a blue tint. That is what it looks like in front when i was driving down the turnpike.

Visibility furthur down the road was about the same. May need to bring up the headlights a bit. Visibility off to the sides is a big improvement.

I do like the overall effect the lights put out. I will wait to install the high beams. I want to see how long the low beam bulbs will last, kept the OEMs handy just in case.

Where does one look for that headlight kit that turns the high beams on with the low beams?

No way any headlamps should last only 6 months.

Told me? I experienced it first hand. I got 4 months of use from the first one, and the second one went out 3 weeks later.

6 months would have been better than 4

I am running G.E. Nighthawks for both high and low beam with the four high beams mod. I tried the Silverstars and in my opinnion, they weren't worth the money. The G.E.s were cheaper, and I think they work better.
