A couple questions

Hey guys, I just picked up my '98 GMC Z71 ex-cab. Great site here with a lot of knowledge, so thank you! I have wired up a few cars in the past but I have never used the factory cd players. I really like the look/feel of the factory GM decks so I was hoping to keep it in there. Will this still sound okay?

I am looking to buy these speakers:

Boston Acoustics SX60

6-1/2"/6-3/4" Component System-- http://www.crutchfield.com/S-5iRc4TYlxzB/c...g=410&I=065SX60

And power them with a 200 watt amp I already have (the brand is "Massive", it is 100watts rms x2)

But to get the RCA's signal i think i need this?

Scosche SLC4

Four-channel line output converter

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-5iRc4TYlxzB/c...g=721&I=142SLC4

I have never run an amp to speakers before, only to a sub. Would it be easier to run new speaker wire to the door speakers from the amp?

Thanks in advance for your help! :chevy:

Click here for what I did a couple of years ago. Replaced everything but the stock head unit.

Some amps have inputs that will take speaker lines directly...Don't know about yours. If it does, you won't have to buy that converter.

Also, an FYI: If you aren't installing subs, you will have close to zero bass. Aftermarket speakers don't have the frequency response range that the stock speakers do (they're designed for specific freq ranges vice the stock being designed for the full spectrum).

But those components will sound GREAT for mids and highs compared to the factory ones.

if he is running a 4 channel to them they will sound fine after the system is tunned. the only time you will lose sound quality is if you upgrade your speakers and are still running them off of the factory deck. you will then notice a loss of volume due to the higher end speakers being less efficent.

robert: if you have any questions PM me, im a installer.

Wingnut- That is almost exactly what I am planning on doing. Thanks for the replies. My current amp does not have speaker inputs, only RCA inputs/outputs. It does however have the x-over switch between LFP, full, and HFP. For the components should I run this at the HFP or full? And is it a bad idea to run only the front two speakers off of the 2-channel amp and have the rears off the deck? Or would I be better off purchasing a new 4-channel amp to power all four corners?

I am going to be adding a sub in the near future as well...as soon as I can afford another amp. I might use the single 12" I already have, although I would rather run one or two 10"s of a higher quality. I am a poor college student so I have to buy things in pieces lol. Thanks again for your help! :)

I helped do my neighbors truck a few years ago...We did a single 10" under the rear, and amped that sub and the front doors only. It sounded pretty dang good for him having spent well under $500. Light-years beyond stock.

I'd try the HFP myself.
