8.1 oil consuption

Has anyone else with an 8.1 with a quart of oil habit every 1500 miles had their oil consumption all but stop?

 

At about 70K miles I noticed mine started using less and less. It was time to change the oil again, and after 3000 miles, it was just off of the "Full" mark on the stick.

 

Is this possible or have the oil fairies been stopping by my place and topping off every day?

Not sure. Mine continued to use about a quart between oil changes until I traded it at 84000 miles. Oil fairies, LOL!

Mine stopped just like that....only it was after I had the intake manifold gaskets replaced (twice).

 

After about 15,000 miles though...it's started using again...

 

Now what's really wierd is...since it's very close to being out of warranty, I hustled down to the dealership to start another oil consumption test...and low and behold, with this oil change...it's not burning hardly any at all...

 

One of two things happened... The Valvoline 5W30 the quick lube place put in during the last oil change is inferior compared to whatever the dealership put in...OR the dealership filled it up with 10w40 knowing that this was the start of a OCT...

 

 

Regardless...I'll do my own oil changes for the next couple and decide on my own if I need to redo the intake gaskets again..or learn to live with it.
