BIG BLUE Posted April 17, 2001 Posted April 17, 2001 Heavy Chevy, Congrats! That's pretty quick turn-around actually. Couple of questions. You said you ordered GMO? I thought all the HD's were GMS only. Has this changed? I know it's only a couple % difference but when your talking almost 40K that makes a difference. By the way, what did you get? CCab? ExtCab? Give us the scoop. Regards, BIG BLUE
HeavyChevy Posted April 17, 2001 Posted April 17, 2001 I ordered GMO and the dealership didn't blink an eye about it. I ordered a 2500HD LS Package, CC, 4X4, shortbox, Graphite Cloth, 6 Way Power Seats, 6000 Vortec, 4 Speed, Locking Diff, 4.10, 40/20/40 Split Bench w/fold down storage, Polished Aluminum Rims, tinted glass, Mirror w/temp and compass, Tonneau Cover, HD Trailering, Radio CD Auto Tone Control, Summit White. It sickered on the order sheet at 35,165 and I am getting it for 29,310 plus tax, tags, title. Really looking forward to driving this beast. I test drove one at a different dealer than I ordered from and just loved it and had to have one. I ordered it from Kurtis Chevrolet in Morehead City, NC. I tried to order it from a different dealer and they kept telling me the computer system was down for 3 days, so I went to Kurtis and it was ordered in about 1.5 Hours. I have been very please with them so far, if I call them they always return my call the same day with the info I asked for. This call back thing here in NC seems to be a problem for businesses as a whole. I am station here in the Marine Corps and I am retiring in 2 yrs with my 20 yrs so thought I should buy a new truck before I get out. I am seeing more of them on the road down here and hope I will be the next one! I hope this gives you a good word picture of the truck. Take Care, HeavyChevy
Zane Posted April 18, 2001 Author Posted April 18, 2001 Quote: from summitXMK on 9:27 am on April 18, 2001What is GMS and GMO? GMO=General Motors Order GMS=General Motors Stock. They are the codes for when people use their family, or employee discounts to but a vehicle.
Stepside Z Posted April 19, 2001 Posted April 19, 2001 Heavy Chevy, What made you decide on the 6.0 verses the 8.1? I have read on other boards that 8.1 with the 3.73 rear gets about the same MPG as the 6.0 with the 4.10. I am in the same boat as you rapidly aproaching the 18 year mark in the Navy and want to get a new truck befor I retire. I am Seriously Considering a Duramax. Just trying to get all the facts befor I take the plunge.
HeavyChevy Posted April 19, 2001 Posted April 19, 2001 Stepside Z, I really didn't need the 8.1, the 6.0 will be more than enough for me. I guess the bottom line is it didn't really matter, so I just picked the stock motor. I would think long and hard about the duramax. If you get the Duramax you will spend about ?.00 more for the truck. Now if you have something really heavy to pull I could understand, but if it is for the MPG, it is going to take you a long time to make up the diff. in price, 12-15 MPG on the 6.0 or 8.1 and the best I have heard is 21 MPG on the Duramax. I guess that will have to be your choice. I basically just wanted a 4x4 CrewCab and I thought the 2500HD looked and drove good. I need the CrewCab for my teenager that is tall the extended cab didn't cut it for room in the back seat. The cost diff for me was about ?.00 in getting the CrewCab over the Extended Cab 2500HD (GMO). Where are you stationed at and what is your rate. I am a PRC in Navy Terms, a GySgt Flight Equipment in Marine terms. I taught in Pensacola with the Navy. I really miss Pensacola best duty station in 18 years. Take care and look forward to chat with you again. HeavyChevy (Gunny)
Stepside Z Posted April 20, 2001 Posted April 20, 2001 HeavyChevy, I am an OSC in Navy terms not sure in Marine terms. I am currently stationed in Wallops Island, Va. not to far up the road from you. I am really enjoying it because of the fishing and seafood. Stepside Z (Chief)
HeavyChevy Posted April 24, 2001 Posted April 24, 2001 Well I lied to you all. I have bad news. My TPW got pushed back to May 7th or I misunderstood the dealer and I thought he said it would be earlier. I honesty don't know what to think. I guess when it comes in and they call me to come and get it I'll believe it. If I get it by the end of May it won't be far off the projected time frame they gave me in the beginning of 8-12 weeks. I was just hoping it came in sooner. TPW 7May01 on 2001HD LS 4X4, CrewCab, 6.0, Summit White, Power Seats
YoScotty Posted May 8, 2001 Posted May 8, 2001 Heavy.... I'm in the same boat with you, but my GMC 2500HD is now on it's 13th week from my original order date of Feb. 8th. I was told by my dealer in New Orleans that the truck was scheduled to be built on the 7th of May (yesterday). It is not a confirmed date, but I sure hope. So it looks like another 3 weeks before i take delivery, bummer, I did not realize GM takes this dang long. I had a 99 and 00 Ford superduty crew cab, 4x4 and from the order date to when I was actually driving the truck was about 7 weeks. It will be about 16-18 weeks by the time I take delivery. Is there a way that I can track delivery? My truck is almost identical to yours, White w/ graphite, but mine is leather (SLT). Although mine is stickered at 37,045, the invoice shows 32,454. I sold my 00 Ford in Feb, thinking that I would be in my new GMC a few weeks later, HA! that was a mistake.... It has been miserable without my truck, I can't haul my boat to the lake, etc. Let me know when you get your truck. YoScotty (Edited by YoScotty at 12:22 pm on May 8, 2001)
HeavyChevy Posted May 8, 2001 Posted May 8, 2001 http://www.bnsf.com/cws.... http are two web sites that I saved from a truck forum and it was said you can track your truck once you get a VIN number. I haven't heard anymore about my truck and I am not even going to call and ask this week. I will wait and call next week hopefully to be surprised with a VIN number I can track. I also am waiting for my truck to pull a boat to the ocean. I do alot of offshore fishing with a 21' Center Console. My 89 GMC 2500 Vendura Conversion Van is just not cutting the mustard anymore. I will sell the van once I get the truck since it is paid for and the dealer won't give me anything for it. I am going to try and get about ?.00 for it. Then I will do the nerf bars, Bug shield, Window Vents. I don't have to worry about the tonneau cover since I ordered it with the truck. I kinda knew the wait period because my dad does the same GMO deal every two years and 8-12 weeks is just about right. I know some years ago he waited 6 months to get his truck. Hopefully niether of us have to wait that long. I just am looking forward to fishing again and having a new tuff ride. I will be sure to let you all know when I receive the truck and will try to post some pics of it sometime in June probably. Talk to ya later HeavyChevy
YoScotty Posted May 11, 2001 Posted May 11, 2001 Heavy.... Good news! I was told by my dealer that my truck was built last week and was shipped out on rail Mon. the 7th. My neighbor is a Union Pacific engineer who takes the railcars from Monroe, LA to Baton Rouge, LA which is where it will be until transported to New Orleans. He left for Monroe last night to take a train full of auto cars which he said my truck could be on that train. He said it takes about 3-4 days to get from the plant to the holding yard (huge car lot in Baton Rouge). Of course it could sit at the holding yard for a couple of weeks, ugh... The truck could be in Baton Rouge this weekend and I've got to go to my sisters wedding there this weekend. Guess what I might do? lol Go see if I can see my truck at the lot. The bad news is I can't trace my truck with VIN#, which my dealer gave to me yesterday. UPRR only traces with the railcar # which I don't have, will try to call my dealer to see if he has that info. My dealer said he will see if we can pick up my truck at the holding yard and maybe get the truck a week or so earlier. I will keep you posted. YoScotty
