5.3 vs 8.1

so my chick friend is talkin smack haha. she just bought an 03 crew cab 4x4 with the 8.1 and i have (see sig)...what am i in for...her tq numbers are ridiculous. im not sure what rear she has but my 3.42's arent going to help either.

how about if i had a muffler, intake, and wait4me tune? (all soon to happen)

You should win handily because of your weight advantage. She has a crew 3/4, your an exc 1/2.

I think all 8.1's come with either 3.73 or 4.10's....lol Just don't race towing trailers.

Just make sure she doesn't get a wait4me or something then your really in trouble.

yeah if you're racing empty youll have no trouble, the 8.1 i drove was a dog. put 5k lbs behind you both and you can wave bye bye.

really? i didn't think id stand a chance. any idea what 5.3's dyno completely stock? what can i expect from a muffler swap, tune, and intake? (dyno #'s or 1/4 et)

Pretty sure 295hp & 335 ft lbs for your year. Intake tune and exahust would get you around Im guesstimating 20-25ish hp. Mostly the tune. My 87/89 tune got me 10-15.

Stock vs stock there is not a doubt in my mind you'll win, but just to show what a monster the 8.1 can be check this vid out that was posted here a while back.

a stock 5.3 will make around 235-245hp at the wheels. im in agreement with the above post in that you will probably gain around 30 horses with a tune, intake and muffler replacement.

guess this can only be settled one way!!! ... ( i might have to teach her how to drive her truck just to make it fair )

o geez... she just told me its got a 454 in it (before she said 8.1L)... i will admit that i sometimes have a hard time translating the old measurements with the new style...but...cmon...not when its my own truck

so now i gotta wonder if theres any modification done to it...hmmm. well regardless of our trucks competing...im pretty sure i can take her in a fight

You have got to be kidding me...the chevy small blockare some of the greatest engines (power/performance/etc) ever made...they have constantly out performed the big blocks...
