Questions on BFG All-Terrain T/A KO

Recommended Posts

After much reading on this forum, I'm going to be purchasing a set of BFG All-Terrain T/A KO in the LT265/70R17/C for the '04 Suburban.

Per the BFG website, this tire is RWL, which I'm assuming is Raised White Letter. Can anybody tell me if the other side is black wall, as that is what I'd prefer?

Also, any recommendations on everyday PSI for this tire? And will the tire pressure monitors still function properly if I decide to increase the PSI towards 50 for towing/hauling?

Finally, can anybody convice me I need to go with the 285s!!!

Thanks!

You'll love those tires. I am running 265/75/16/D on my 2500HD and they are also OWL. Yes the other side is black. Just ask you installer to put them on "black out". That is what I did. I run mine at 55PSI but your tire being C rated probably needs to be run somewhere around 35-40PSI unloaded. 50PSI may be a little high for that tire. Max pressure should be posted on the sidewall.

I'm running the 265/70/17 on a 2004 Tahoe for the past 5,000 miles. I run them at 40 psi cold. Max. load on the sidewall is listed 2470 lbs @ 50 psi (cold). Love them compared to the stock Wrangler AT/S. I have no idea about the tire pressure monitor system and where the upper limit is set. I suspect you will be ok. Perhaps GM Tech knows for sure?

i reallyliked those tires, but i decided to not go with them because they didnt have a warranty. i bought pro comp a/t's instead that came with a 50k mile one. i also got the 285/70/17's. granted i had to raise the front end, but i like the look sooo much better than the stock 265's.

I have had them, do have them and love them. Like stated above, just tell your installer "Black side out". I have been told that 285's on the Burban's stock wheels will be a snug fit, but they do fit. I have 285's on my stock height 1500 Silverado and they are fine, but I have aftermarket wheels too.

I've got and love them. I also run at 40 psi cold. Unfortunatly my installer didn't give me the option for black walls out. Oh well not a big deal (for me anyways). You won't regret getting these tires.

Everybody's already pretty much covered what I was going to say.

-awesome tire

-about 40'ish lb's

-yes, white one and black other

One thing I didn't see ........ make sure you rotate them ! ! ! I always had mine rotated every 6,000 miles (i.e. every other oil change) from the place I bought my tires from. Thus I got +60,000 out of my first set and the second set was at 30-40K when I sold the truck and they still had plenty of meat on them. Granted that was on a '91 RCSB 4x4 too.

Do they not make that 265 on 17" in a 'D' Load Range ???

Before I bought my '03, I test drove another '03 EC Z-71 (black) that had 295's on 16" under it :gmc: .......... now you want to talk about a sweet looking ride. But the fuel mileage was only 16.5mpg ......... which I thought was great at the time til I test drove the one I bought :banghead: .

I have used only bfg tires for the last 15+ years and have had 0 flats and every set has gone past 50k on tread life, you dont need a warranty with these tires!

im on my second set of 285/75r16 bfg kos and no flats yet over 70000miles total.

rotate often, if you go to 285s you will probably rub tires on frt splash guards, 265s are lighter and not that big of a difference in width.

I see a lot of emphasis on rotating in the forum. I rotate just once a year when I change form Snow to summer. I am just rotating front back, and keeping the tires always on the same side (so they always rotate the same direction) is this correct, or are you also swapping sides?

PS I am on the stock 265/70/17 Bridgestones, and don't plan to buy a set of them again ever, but that's another story.

make sure you rotate them

In 42K miles I have only rotated mine 2 times. This was in the first 15K miles.

You can't go wrong with BFG AT's. I have them; run with 35psi, and after 30K miles, they are wearing great. Pressure monitors will work fine at whatever psi you decide to run.

Is this the consesus pick for our trucks, BFG?

i was going to get the GY Wranglers.

I stopped by Wal-Mart and they gave me a price of around $780 for the top of the line (Silent Armor Technology) GY Wranglers.

That's complete with the lifetime balance/ rotate/repairs warranty.

according to this chart the ones I priced out at Wal-Mart are rated #2 and the Revo #4.

But I heard of bad reveiws of the GYs on some of the forums though and that the bridgestone dueler revo a/t are best.
