engine noise

I have a 2002 gmc serria and have recently installed a k&n air filter, exhaust and a superchip programer. I did'nt have any problems in wisconsin but when I had to go back out to 29 palms Ca where I am stationed. I started to hear a noise when I got hot out(above 90). The noise sounds like someone thro some marbles in the cylinder under acceleration. and ended up fouling out the plugs lean. Any help is great.

It is my understanding that Superchips and Hypertech are both designed for "stock" trucks and some mods like CAIs and exhaust systems can cause detonaion. You could alos possibly have carbon build up and you may want to try Chevron Techron for a couple of tanks to see if it helps. Mix it a 1 oz per gallon of gas.

i find LUCAS works a bit better then TECHRON. don't get me wrong, TECHRON is very good used it for years, but 2 bottles of LUCAS will realy clean things up. also try running 91 if you are not already i know what the palms is like live east of barstow.:wtf:

good luck.......

I use Lucas Fuel Treatment in every tank at the rate of 3 Ozs per 10 gallons. I believe it is a great preventative maint chemical and does help keep the comb chamber clean and is a great upper cyl lube. However, I still believe there is nothing better than Techron for cleaning up carbon from the combustion chamber. The Lucas will not hurt a thing and could help.

I am also sure the 91 octane will stop the ping but you should not have to do this. The engine should not ping on 87. If you decide to run premium fuel if should be becasue you want to, not because you have to. I run 93 because I believe it provides more power when towing and it provides slightly better fuel mileage. There is a lot of opinons on this but I tried it and gave it time for the ECM to adjust and I belive it helped me.

To clean out carbon build-up, I recommend Power Foam from Amsoil. It's great stuff. It's a foam like it says. You spray it into your TB while the engine is running. After you use the whole can, you turn off the engine and let it sit for about 15 mins. When you start it up again, you will see quite a bit of black smoke coming out of the exhaust. Drive it around a bit...run it up to 70 or 80 at WOT. You won't believe the crap that comes out. Now that I think about it, it's probably a good way to find an exhaust leak. Good luck.

I would start by removeing the Sc program and see if the issue persists.

If you have a issue with the stock program installed then I would take it to the dealer for service.

What program are you using? Perf, tow, or 87 octane?

What grade of fuel are you using?

Have you cleaned the air filter lately? If you over oil the filter the MAF could be dirty.
