Besides switching to a higher octane gas. How do I find out what is causing it and get rid of it?

 

New plugs wires and cap were installed this summer and I adjusted the timing to 0 BTDC with the little brown wire unplugged.

 

What else can I be missing?

Hook up your timing light and as the engine is running tap on the block with a hammer. The timing should retard. If it doesn't,your anti-knock sensor is bad. Even if your sensor is good, you may still have some spark knock with lower octane gas. My truck has always needed 91+ octane to completely get rid of spark knock.

Have you replaced your knock sensor? Mine went bad in my '92, and that thing knocked like a mofo until I put a new one in.

I havent' replaced or checked the knock sensor. I'll get a new one today and let you know how it goes.
