Lame Horn

I need to service my horns - Where are they. Only 1 is honking and I'd like to look into fixing it. Any ideas?

I assume the Yukon is very similar to the Silverado truck in this respect. If so, I may be able to help based on the 01 Silverado I had previously. If I remember correctly, there are two horns a low pitch on the driver's side and a high pitch is on the passenger's side. I had to replace the high pitch. Again if I remember correctly they are both behind the grille under the headlight assembly. (Location is a great place to get water in the horn and "fry" it.) It is a very simple repair once you figure out which horn is bad, unplug, loosen and take to NAPA, Autozone, etc and they'll fix you right up with a new one.

Just to add a little, I have heard stories of incorrect mounting of the horns allowing water into them. You don't want them pointing up or forward as they will easily fill with water.

Here's another horn related question (Sorry to threadjack).

My 06 work truck only has a singly tone horn. How hard is it to add the second one?

And yet another question...what are you guys running for aftermarket horns? My 2004 isn't to bad but it seems like the horns are getting pretty lame sounding. My grandpa is putting a train airhorn in the frame rails on his Dodge dually. Just was curious as to what others are running.

I would LOVE to have a train horn, but as an adult, I feel that money should be spent on other things.

With that being said, what are some good brands to look at and how much do they cost, I LOVE those train horns!! ;)

Right on Elwood, Keeping up the tradition that most men are little boys who never really grew up, but our toys got a lot bigger and more expensive. I remember being younger and getting all excited about the new toys R us catalog yet now i find the same joy with the jegs catalog. (Although theres still that problem of the wants exceeding the bank balance)

I test drove a toy today that I have wanted since childhood and the best part is the wife has given the green light. Now I just have to get the price down where I want it and then my pocketbook will have to be watched very closely for the next couple years! Of course, if this happens, I have to get her a new buggy too, so I will have to see how that pans out. If she is sensible, we are both in for a treat. If not, well..............I dunno!

OEM horns are made by FIAMM. You can get the actual replacement horn (the high note is typically what goes dead) for about $12. Part #72102.

As far as more "effective" horns, I'd love to have a fire engine air horn!
