How did you select your truck?

Did you order it to your specs or select it from the lot inventory?

I took mine from lot inventory. 2500HD2By with the LS pkg.

6L HDauto tranny. Crew cab and short box. Forrest Green and graphite cloth. Two things: The dealer installed pin stripes. That was OK. Dealer installed a Penda Drop in liner. That was not OK. I didn't have to pay for either. That was way OK.

Came with the forged polished alum wheels. Rear defogger/heated mirrors. AM/fm/cd. 6way per seats. Etc...

It was one of the last new C/K models left on a lot anywhere.  Since GM was trying to clear the lots of them to prepare for the Slverado HDs we got a good deal on it, ended up having to have it trucked in from someplace in western Iowa.  Wasn't quite what we had been getting for a work truck, this one is a LS model with just about every option on it, but it sure is nice.

I actually wanted a 1500HD (pewter with LT package) and found the one I wanted at a dealer about 75 miles from home.  I actually went down there after they were closed to look at the truck.  My dealer tried several times to make a dealer trade with them and it was a no go.

After about the third try to get this truck on trade my dealer (actually the owner) called me and asked me if I would like an HD2500.  He said he just saw his transit list and forgot that he had ordered this pewter HD crewcab 4x4 LT package.  I told him I couldn't afford the 2500HD and the LT package (about $1000 more than the 1500HD).  He said he would throw in his "dealer cash" and we made the deal over the phone.  I never saw or drove the truck until I took it home!!!  The only thing it has that I wouldn't have ordered was the cab clearance lights, but now I think they are really cool....

Knew what I wanted. Called a friend who's a sales manager for a large dealership in Maryland. He faxed me the sticker on three HDs he had in stock that were what I wanted with minor differences such as alloys/no alloys etc.

A few days later they delivered my new truck to my home in South Carolina on the back of a truck.

Sierra 2500HD 4x4 Crew Cab short box. White with tan cloth and power buckets. 6.0 with automatic. Trailer towing packace. SLE.

They had a left over 01 and two 02s with these basic specs. I took the 01 and saved some money.

I ordered mine in June and kept getting my TPW pushed back. When it started getting cold and i was told it wouldn't be in until December I had them locate me one. it was the same color but had a few more options than the one I had ordered. It ended up costing $500 more but I like the extra options and I still got it $200 under invoice.

I knew what I wanted but no dealer close to me (Wapakoneta, Ohio) had the color I wanted (Indigo Blue) with the options I wanted. So, after several days of having a couple of dealers trying to dealer trade (so they claimed - I think they really wanted me to buy what they had in stock which were a Carmine Red and a couple of Pewters) I got on GM BuyPower.

Within a few minutes I found a couple in Columbus, Ohio. I made a couple of calls, got the exact particulars (making sure they didn't have a ton of add-ons or such) and drove down the next day. The company I work for has a GM Supplier Price arrangement with GM, so the price was set. I got it for less than invoice and then they deducted the $2002 rebate off of that, so I was way happy.   I was especially happy after I found out how much  better the Chevy I bought was than the F-250 Superduty I got rid of to buy it.

I got exactly what I wanted equipment wise (see signature), but the one thing I would have liked the truck to have was the Roof Markers - not one within 300 miles had them (in Indigo Blue). I almost bought the Carmine Red one on my local dealer's lot becaue it did have them, but I just didn't want to give up the blue. So, I'm going to have the Roof Markers installed this spring and then I'll have the whole package. :D

Ordered it to my specs.  Knew I wanted the 496 when I saw it in prototype form at the Janesville Assembly plant for Tahoe's/Suburban's waaaaayyyyyyy in the back under cover in the new Tahoe/Suburban assembly section.

Peeled back the cover, there it was.  A Vortec 8100, Allison Transmission, and the rest of the running gear all sitting in the new Hydroformed Suburban 2500 frame.  Had an orgasm, needed a cigarette, then we continued on.

I knew exactly what I wanted from having what I thought I wanted in my 2000 1/2 ton. Having that truck made me realize the only way to have exactly what I wanted was to order it. I knew I didn't want leather, wanted the locker, and wanted four doors. Was initially thinking another extra cab, but decided on the crew. Best decision I made. Also knew I wanted the Allison tranny and the most pulling muscle (except diesel). I tried to do a dealer search hoping I would get lucky, but I didn't. So then I ordered it.

Ordered 10/31/01

TPW 11/19/01

Truck built 11/20/01

At dealership 12/4/01

Drove home morning of 12/5/01

Total time: 36 days from order to delivery

Christmas came early!!

I knew what I wanted after looking for about a year at the manufacturer sites and their specs. The GM products seemed to best fit my situation of pulling a fifth wheel af about 8000# max. Wanted a 2500LD with 6.0 and 4.10. Only choice in this city is 4x4. Checked lots for 01's in Sept when the low financing started and found only about 10 inall 10 dealers in the city. One dealer has a great reputation, so took the lowest price from all GM dealers in the city and managed to get my price on their only 2500 in stock. Good seemingly honest salesman. I did not want to order as I would have had to buy an 02 and would not have received the low financing. Received the equipment I wanted but not the color (got blue, wanted pewter). Oh well, can't get all one wants. What a vehicle!!!!!!! Would definitely do exactly the same deal again.

I plan to keep this truck for a long time, & I knew I wouldn't find exactly what I wanted anywhere, so I ordered it.  Took about 2 months start to finish, it was well worth it.

How did I select my truck?  That is a good question because I ask myself the same question every time I drive it.  I absolutely hate the ZF 6-speed transmission and am not very fond of the GM extended cab trucks with the rattletrap rear doors either.

I was actually looking for a  1SB package 4x4 crew cab shorty with an 8.1, Alley and manual shift transfercase.  Expecting to take delivery of a vehicle like I wanted for GM employee discount is hard to come by as GM discounts are at the dealer’s discretion.  Being that HD crewcabs are highly desirable, I couldn’t find a dealer that wanted to let me have a crew cab for GMS and the only dealer that would honor a discount on a HD didn’t have what I wanted in stock or on consensus.  This was the same hometown Colorado dealer that I bought my 98’ Z71 for GMS a few years ago even though I lived in MI at the time. They were also willing to give me a great deal on my trade over what I owed on a 98’ rusty victim of Michigan salt Z71 with 57K miles.  Even though they didn’t have what I wanted in stock, they had several 8.1 and 6.6L extended cabs in stock with 6 speeds.  Manual transmissions are very popular out here in the west which was fine by me as that was my preference anyway as that I what I have always owned in a 4x4 trucks.  I had driven a few different ZF 6-speed trucks and was not impressed so I don’t know why I thought this one would be different.

Long story short, I walked out with owing only $21,000 for a new HD after the GM discount, trade-in plus .9% interest.  My payments actually went up $8 for a 3 year newer truck. I got close, but not exactly what I wanted however my payments are still well under my company car allowance so I shouldn’t complain.  The Allison alone would have probably added a few bucks more to my payments and the crew cab would have added even more.  Because if my territory size, I get a vehicle allowance rather than a company car like the rest the reps get, mainly because most of my travel is by plane and rental car.

I guess I selected my truck because it was in the right place at the right time.  If I were to do it over again today, I wouldn’t have settled for this thing.

I knew I wanted an Xcab, short bed with a 5 speed.  Was looking for a 1/2 ton in white, red, or blue.

Couldn't buy new at the time and I only had $2500 to put down, so the price had to be right.  Put the word out to some local dealers and shopped like crazy over the 'net for about 3 months.

Finally got a call from a salesman, who'd been the only one who seemed to really be looking on my behalf.  Said they'd taken in a HD 3/4 ton from a lease deal.  More suspension than I needed, but everything else was what I'd wanted, and HD 3/4 ton 5 speeds are impossible to find.

Drove it, had a mechanic buddy put it on his lift and checked very thoroughly.  They took $5,400 less than book for it and the best part, as you can tell from my pics, it was plain stock when I got it, which let me outfit it the way I wanted.  I'll never find a steal like that again -
