Power Inverters

I've been looking into getting a power inverter to put in my truck. I have a lot of possible uses for it: Charging batteries for my dewalts, charging the radio for my firehouse, flashlight, etc. So does anyone here have one? What size, and how do you have it wired/mounted? Thanks for the input!!

hi

i have an 800w power inverter that i mounted to on a panel i made behind the driver seat of the truck. i dont plug much into it but its plenty of power to run my laptop. I have it wired direct from the battery on a 30amp fuse...

I have a small "plug in" style, about 200W, that works great for light duty such as running my laptop, charging radios, and similar tasks. Just plug it into the 12V outlet on the rear of my console.

Most battery chargers say "Do not use with power inverters- may damage charger". Just FYI. I have an inverter but never use it.

I have 2500 watt unit. I mounted it in one of the side mount tool boxs. Ran 2 water proof recepticals to the rear of the bed. Use it all the time for skill saws, miter boxs, belt sanders etc. Much easyer than the old way of hauling around a generator and quieter also. It runs the dewalt radio charger with no issues. It is connected with 00 welding cable though a 200 amp fuse to an isolated battery.

Have a 800W one - mounted under the cup holder in the center console, ran to an auxillary plug on the back of the console hidden be the flip up dring holders.

I have a cheep 400watt unit I got to run my laptop and maybe game station. My laptop audio plugs into my aux in on the back of my Alpine deck. I got all kinds of noise. Even after grounding it to my distribution grounding block I still had noise. I went and bought a 300watt true sine wave inverter for lots more money. That fixed the problem. Sensitive equipment (laptop, TV, dvd........) is recommended only to run on a true sine wave inverter (clean power).
