Ideas for '99

Well, I've got a 99 Extended cab that has the sorry stock audio system in it and it is time to punt that POS. I think I posted a similar questions quite awhile back, but I'll try again..

I'm not the kind of guy to do this himself, so I'll have to figure out who to have build a box or if I can use a box that might be built for other subs. I'm trying to wade through the posts here, but I thought I'd ask for some help in case there's someone who just likes brainstorming.

I want to have some musical bass and something that an hit pretty low. If you've ever heard Scorn, Lustmord or Lull....that is some of the stuff I want to hear some of the LFE in. I also listen to metal, classic rock and such, so I do need some quickness to my sub/subs so I can listen to Pink Floyd or Metallica as well. I don't want some pimp my ride look, I want a clean install and don't want to see amps or anything beyond the head unit and maybe a portable MP3 player.

I am not sure whether I should go with (2) 12's or 10's or what. I am leaning toward Infinity for the subs and probably the mids and possibly Dynaudio for the tweets. I might go all Infinity and not use a separate tweet, or if I can find a good deal....go all Dyne except for the subs. I will more than likely drive it all with a Nakamichi head unit of some sort and I'm not sure what amp/s/ to use.

Does this sound like it would deliver? What sort of wattage should I be looking at?

For Bass I would go 2 10's with a 600 watt amp. I would then put quite a bit more cash towards the components in the doors, you will hear these the most. A decent 2 way will be sufficient in the rear. Put a seperate amp on the front and rear speakers (seperate from the Subs) to help them keep up with the bass. If you wanted to get enev more fancy the custom kickpanel enclosures for the front components will help out with sound projection though I don't feel it is entirely required. For a subwoofer enclosure You best and most readily available option is a box that fits under the rear seat one sub on each side with the amp mounted between them. Down firing would be ideal.

I have 2 12" Infinity Reference subs in a downfiring box for my '01 under my rear bench with a Profile AP1000M amp wired in parallel. Sounds great! the amp comes with a bass remote too which is handy if I want to bounce the car next to me or just want to hear it in the cab

and I agree with what asilverblazer was saying on his post. Component in the front, and a really nice 2 way in the back. (I personally have a 3 way 4x6 in the back)

I'll try to research this, but does anyone know offhand what size opening and what depth there is in the rear door? I don't really want to run a cheap 4x6 plate and I've found a place where I can get some quality drivers for every position other than the rear. Is there much room back there to run anything other than a plate? Something like a 4" or 5" round driver?

I've got 2 12" Boston Acoustic subs under my rear bench 02' silverado. The Bostons only require a box that is less than a cubic foot yet they have a max wattage of 1300W. In the front I've got a set of Boston 61/2" components. I run them with 2 Rockford Fosgate amps that I mounted on the floor under the seat, between the 2 subs. I had the guy at Circuit City build the costom boxes, they look great. I use an Alpine head unit with Aux input for my IPOD. I don't have any speakers hooked up in the back, but was thinking of getting a set of Boston 4x6 components, and mount the tweeters on the rear corners up high. The Bostons are a bit expensive, but I like rock, metal, classic rock, ect. . . and they are one of the most accurate speakers you can get, has nice tight punch for rock, but sounds great for rap also. If you have Circuit City do the install, they will remove it and replace with the stock stuff for free when you get rid of the truck. Infinity makes great speakers as well.
