Throttle Body Bypass

On ebay, you find these throttle body bypass kits.

Here's the description they give:

By directing the hot coolant around the throttle body instead of through it, it keeps the intake cooler and thus the air entering it cooler as well. Cool air is denser, and burns much better and more efficient than warm air.

Does this actually work? I can and will make my own kit cheaper than buying theirs.

No, just don't do it. That sound like it would cause more harm than what little it MIGHT help.

I bypass mine every summer and put it back for winter. I can't say I notice any difference but it makes sense that cooler air is better. I bought the parts for about $2.00.

I think the type R badges would help more. Just maybe the coolant keeps the TB at the same temperature as the parts it's mated to, which keeps the gaskets from having to slide. Bypassing the coolant passages could lead to premature gasket failures.

I had a friend do the bypass to his truck and I thought it was a total waste of time. It was very cheap but made no difference at all.

Won't it cause the engine richer and cause premature failure of 02 sensors, & cat's? Type R or K&N sticker makes it go so much faster...
