Change Engine Oil message?

This morning when I was driving to work the message "Change Engine Oil" came up on the message center of my dash. I just changed my oil not even 1,000 miles ago. I checked my oil, it was clean and at the proper level. Why would that message come up?

If you didn't reset the 'change oil' light, it won't know you've changed the oil.

To reset, turn on the ignition (don't start the truck) and press the gas peddle 4 times then start the truck. That'll reset the timer for the 'change oil'.

Your truck has a oil monitoring system which uses data such as engine temp, throttle position, speed and a host of other parameters to determine oil life. It cannot, however tell that you have changed oil. After you change oil, turn the key to the run position, but do not start engine. Depress the throttle 3 times and the change oil light on dash should flash and you're set! It now starts the monitoring process over.

Soooo, that message is just on an interval? Like every 3000 miles perhaps, kind of a reminder then? I assumed there was a sensor monitoring the oil for dirt and such?

Yes, you must reset when you change your oil. The system is not just a mileage reminder. Think of it this way, if you lived at minus 40 and started your truck and drove 90 mph for 15 minutes, versus living at plus 80, warming your truck for a minute, drove conservatively for 40 minutes, etc.....you get the idea......this system can tell the difference in the 2 driving scenarios and adjust the light accordingly....it will allow I think up to 12,000 KM (not sure how many miles that is) between oil changes
