I have a Weatherguard Saddlebox for my truck. I bought this back in '94 for my first truck (Chevy C1500 W/T), and when I traded that truck in this year, I kept the box. Seeing as how I dropped $450 for the box back in '94, I figured that I should hang onto it. But the lift struts that open and hold up the lid wore out several years ago. I went to a local Weatherguard dealer to get replacement lift supports, and they were listed at $50 each!!!! I searched around on the web, and the cheapest I could find them for was $35 each!!!

So I decided to hunt for aftermarket. After some research, I found that Arvin Meritor makes most lift supports, and I was able to find a close match to the Weatherguard. The only two places I found them at were through PartsAmerica, and Lift Support Depot. Parts America was a special order (none of the local shops in my zip stock them) and they were $32 each. Lift Support Depot had them for $18 each, plus they had a 10% off sale when I picked them up. They are in CA and I'm in WI, and I got them within 4 days of my order. They popped right in, and now my truck box works like new. No special tools were needed, just regular hand tools.

thats good to know, i know people who have bought entire new toolboxes just for the fact that they needed new lifts on the lids
