Time to trade in that Silverado...

...or at least that what Toyota wants you to do.

Here's it is folks, what the "GM nation" has been dreading, that all new, fullsize Tundra.

The numbers and specs are in:

Powertrain: The big V-8 gets a six-speed automatic transmission, rare among big trucks. That big engine is a 5.7-liter V-8 rated 381 horsepower and 401 pounds-feet of torque. It trumps rivals' biggest gasoline engines, including the well-known Dodge Hemi (345 hp, 370 lbs.-ft.), General Motors VortecMax 6-liter (367 hp, 375 lbs.-ft.), and the Nissan Endurance V-8 (317 hp, 385 lbs-ft.)

•Towing, hauling: Toyota says Tundra tows up to 10,800 pounds, tops among standard-duties. But that's the three-passenger regular-cab model with special equipment. The popular models, Double Cab and CrewMax, come close, though, with special equipment — 10,100 to 10,600 pounds, according to Toyota.

How will it sell? Who knows.

Personally,

I'll keep my 7 year old silverado.

You almost gave me a Heart Attack Man, Not Cool! :)

This ain't no joke though, THIS TRUCK IS GOING TO SELL WELL!

Today was the "official" numbers release.

I've been watching the pats/jets game and there has already been 4 different tundra commercials.

One was something like:

For years all you could get was 4 gears in a 1/2 ton truck, now you can have six.

Another had something to do with the engine and torque.

Can't remember the other two at the moment.

It looks like it ran headfirst into a brick wall before the picture. or got slugged right in the nose by a real truck. :)

But seriously, it has a big section about how all the components are designed and built in the US and that is going to be there marketing ploy.

and this 10,000 lb towing cap, my truck can pull 15,000, not well, but it can pull it. so i have stopped paying attention to tow ratings because GM's are always grossly understated nd toyotas have always been grossly overstated.

So we will see

Wait a minute, you mean to tell me the "base" V6 engine gets practically the same Mileage as the high-end V-8 (the 5.7 liter)

Yeah, I believe that :)

Oh, and it's Ugly as sin too!

It looks like a Titan, with a smashed front end. I'm already one of the last people in my family owning a domestic vehicle, just wait until this crap comes out.

I have a feeling that the prices are going to ridiculously high, just like the previous Tundra's. When I bought my 06 Silverado a comparable 06 Tundra was almost 4000 more, so I got the Silverado and traded in my 04 Tacoma, which I thought was great and wanted to get another Toyota...but it cost too much and I don't regret the decision at all.

Now personally I really don't think this will affect GM too much immediately, but Dodge has to be crapping in their pants, the Hemi(Dodges main selling point) is kind of weak compared to this V8 in the Tundra.

Actually it makes 401ft lbs of torque @ 3600 rpms.

Thats better than the 6.0 Vortec, which makes 375ft lbs @ 4300. :)
