Pointless question

Here is a good kind of pointless question. I'll start off by saying I live in canada, my question is about the fuel economy calculator in my truck. If I use the metric conversion my mileage is about correct, if I use imperial, my miles per gallon is off from what I think it should be. Now I know US gallons are smaller than canadian imperial gallons, my question is when the computer switches from metric to Imperial is it converting to imperial US gallons or imperial UK/Can gallons. Anybody know? Care? Just curious.
