i have a stock everything 2003 chevy silverado 2500hd. it has the 6.0L gas engine. i wanted to tune up the engine a little bit and was wondering if putting an intake, throttle body spacer, mass air flow sensor, and superchip would be worth my time for more horsepower.

Ditch all the ideas above, except for maybe the intake. Spend the money on a custom tune! That's where you'll get the most bang for your buck!

I would even skip the intake. I think they are a waste of money and the underhood noise most of them produce can be downright annoying.

But yes, the first mod should definatley be a custom PCM tune. It will provide the biggest bang for the buck by far. I have been very happy with my Wait4Me on my 6.0 and it only cost $150. Besides that you may want to look at a fee flowing muffler.

I agree with the tune.... biggest bang for the buck. A smooth intake tube of some sort before teh tune would probably pull a few ponies.

FIRST MOD SHOULD ALWAYS BE A CUSTOM TUNE!

Fuel economy improvement, increased power, better shifting, etc. Tuners over on FSC.com are reporting 50hp/50tq improvement at the crank just thru timing adjustments on a 6.0l!

I've done the intake, exhaust, etc on past vehicles and I just did a custom PCM tune on my 2003 2500HD 6.0 and I've NEVER felt as big of an improvement as when I did the tune....except for heads and cam on my 1997 LS1 C5....but that was 10x the cost of a good tune.

I would also say that a PCM tune is the way to go. I just bought my truck when I got back from Iraq in OCT, and its a pretty basic 2500HD with the 4L80 Trans and 6.0L engine. It really woke the truck up. MOD wise I only put on a Flowmaster muffle and then the standard bedliner, step bars. The Muffler was really only because I like how it sounds, some say you will get some HP, but like the other post said our trucks are heavy, and you really need to add like 50+hp to notice anything.

The great thing with the PCM is that you get "all" of the power the motor really makes without the TQ management killing the timing(if you get a performance tune that removes the TQ Mgmt). So the truck does not fall on its face at the get go and then the motor can rev up to 5800-5900RPM. I got a Charlie Wheatly tune and it ran $250 bucks plus another $150 since I keep my original PCM(just in case). So I would say for a very very lighly modified truck like mine the PCM with a performance tune was a great bang for the buck tune.

On my old 95 Camaro I spent alot of money to go fast so now I am happy to say I can not break the bank and just be happy with a good performing truck, knowing that it is still a truck not a sports car. Good luck.

Remember, the PEAK gain might be 50 crank hp...but where you'll FEEL the gains are down low when you take off from a light....the torque management and dismal GM timing won't be holding you back. Before, full throttle from a stop with an empty bed and the truck couldn't break the tires loose. Now, jab 50% throttle and you need to let off because the back end goes sideways (no joke). If you logged your vehicle with a datalogger like EFI Live or PCMSCAN, you'd see for yourself. GM pulls your timing down to about 4 deg when you punch it from a stop.....which is HORRIBLE. I'm at 15 deg now with no knock and it REALLY moves.
