Reprogramming FOBs

I have a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71. I purchased the truck used and the no. 2 FOB would not unlock the doors. Now the no. 1 has stopped unlocking. I read on this forum the description for reprogramming by grounding terminal 4 to 8 of the DLC on a 2005 Silverado. Would that be the same on my truck? Is the DLC mounted under the dash close to the drivers door? How do I know which terminal is no. 4 and 8? Thanks for your help.

hey I would recommend popping the key fobs open and take a pencil eraser and clean the contacts. Look @ the rubber pads that contact the contacts also. If that doesn't help proceed w/ reprogramming , The procedure that you found is for a differant vehicle The correct procedure is like this jump in and close all the doors

1 insert key into ign.

2 press and hold the unlock switch on the door.

3 while holding the switch in unlock cycle the ing on off on off

4 release the door switch the doors will lock then unlock

5 press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on the key fob @ the same time hold them for approx 15-30 second then the door locks should cycle to confirm fob programed.

6 repeat step 5 for # 2 key fob.

Thanks for the info. I popped the fobs, cleaned the contacts. I also neglected to mention I replace the batteries a few days ago. Ran your procedure up to #5. Could not get the fobs to cycle the doors. Bad fobs?? I will try again in the morning. Kind of late and I keep chirping the horn. Gonna wake the neighbors.

Retried this morning. I get through step 4 with the doors cycling, but I can't get either fob to cycle the doors in step 5. Incidently, if I repeat step 4 turning ignition on off once, the truck seems to reset itself and the fobs work as they did with no unlock. The lock and panic buttons on both work fine, just the unlock. Pretty weird. Bad fobs maybe? Any other thoughts or suggestions? Thanks for the help so far.

Retried this morning. I get through step 4 with the doors cycling, but I can't get either fob to cycle the doors in step 5. hey thats a problem, If the contacts are clean and all looks ok I would have to say that you have inop fobs, You may want to take your fobs to your dealer and have them tested, They should have a special tester that they set the fobs on and start pressing the buttons to see if the signal is being sent, it's really simple procedure the really shouldn't charge much to test them. just make sure the power locks are working properly I am pretty sure that they are.-WCT

Just an update. Finally got around to stopping by the dealer. He took my fob apart, rub the rubber contacts on a piece of paper, leaving black marks, then used an eraser on the board contacts. Put it back together and it works fine. Guess I did not clean contacts good enough. Anyway, thanks for the help.
