03 8.1 engine smell

Hi Iam looking for a 03 2500hd 8.1 test drove a 03 with the 8.1 auto trans but noticed after test drive engine smelled hot or like something burning coolant level was good and it did not run hot any thing I should look for before I buy this truck it has 24,000 miles on it coolant temp gauge read close to the middle of gauge I like the truck I did not see any visable leaks anywhere the smell bothers me and is the only thing keeping from buying truck. Thanks

Hmmm...I have also experienced this. I have a 2005 GMC Yukon XL with the 8.1 I have noticed this "hot coolant" smell in the past and took it to the dealership. They commented that something in the coolant assembly parts was not tight and thus I could smell it. (Although I have never seen it leak, get too hot or require additional coolant.) At any rate, soon after I got it back from the dealership, it had the same issue. I would be interested to find out how many other people have this issue as well.

Greg.......Did ya eyeball the engine compartment?

If its clean and shiny or too clean and shiny could be the used

car doll up person put that shiny detail stuff all over the motor

(like armor-all) and its just burning off.....................

Hi the engine compartment is not shined up or looks to be recently cleaned looks as if it was just traded in normal dust and dirt. Thanks

I HAVE A 07 GMC CLASSIC CREWCAB DUALLY. I GET A SMELL LIKE IT SOMETHING LIKE A EMMISION SMELL .NOT THE OLD EGG SMELL SOMETHING ELSE.ANLY WHEN THE TRUCK WARMS UP.OR IF YOU STEP ON THE GAS HARD AFTER ITS WARMED UP.NO LEAKS THAT I CAN SEE.
