Royal Purple Synthetic

Has anyone here had experience with Royal Purple synethtic oil? It advertises a seemingly legitimate 4 - 5 gain in HP. Also, what other synthetics claim this?

I appreciate it.

EDIT: Performance gains aside, is this oil an all around good choice?

Right.

This will be my first change using synthetic, is this oil a good choice, or is there another oil that works more efficiently?

It is a good oil. There are several on here that are running it in their vehicles.

Other good choices are Mobil 1, Redline, German Castrol and AMSOIL.

When I shifted away from Castrol Syntec two years ago I looked hard at Royal Purple but at that time a friend of mine who was close to the company said they were having some financial problems and if I am not mistaken had filed for bankrupcy. Evidently, they came through it. I chose Amsoil but feel that you cannot go wrong with either.

Royal purple is good. I run Mobil 1 because it is easier to find locally.

There is not much difference between Mobil 1 and Amsoil, Royal Purple and others. The Corvettes com with Mobil 1 which is good enough reason for me to use it. I do not have any knowledge of Royal Purple expect I know it is expensive. Amsoil has always made me think of Avon and tupperware. You can not buy it direct but there are tons of "independent dealers". I have never seen any well know shops selling it, just average guys trying to make a buck. They will all help free up some HP but it will not be noticeable to the driver. Synthetics offer better protection from shearing, acid corrosion and deposits. Just to clarify, the synthetic oils you can buy for you car are not true synthetics. They are synthetics made from petroleum. Basically the molecular structure is altered to provide better qualities, but it is still a petroleum oil. A true synthetic is 100% chemical based and very expensive such as Phosphate Ester (spelling). Mobil 1 was the first to develope a "synthetic" motor oil. The other companies could not figure out how they were selling synthetic at such a cheap price. Then they figured out that it was not true synthetic, just a altered petroleum. I say save yourself some money and go with Mobil 1 or another synthetic you find at the auto parts store.

RP is kinda expensive. Have you looked at Pennzoil Platinum at Walmart? You can't beat the price ($17-18 for 5 quart jug) and it's getting some pretty good reviews on oil forums like bobstheoilguy.com

I'm running PP in my 06 Z71 right now and have no complaints.

I run Mobil 1 fully synthetic, its good stuff. RP is hard to find around here, and when you do its over priced. I think the ricers buy it up in hopes of HP

A friend of mine said he saw a dyno graph of a car that ran RP motor oil, tranny fluid, and differentual fluid and it showed something like +12hp or somes**t. I dont know if I beleive that. I have the RP L/S gear oil, it seems to work out pretty good.

I run it in the trans an diff of my vette. It was the only synthetic ATF and gear lube I could find. I would have no problem using M1, RP, AMSOIL, or Redline fluids. Just depends on what you can get in your area.

I run Royal Purple in my '05. I did notice a slight improvement in mileage and in performance.

I don't have to change it as often. The sensor tells me when to change it but it lasts a LONG time, which offsets the expense.

I can buy it at the local parts store and it's slightly cheaper than Mobil 1. I'm very happy with it.

I couldn't find it anywhere locally. Today, I went to AutoZone and bought 6 quarts of Mobil 1. It seems to be some pretty good stuff.
